Newsletter October 2020

The disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic is on-going in most parts of the world. International travel restrictions make visits to customer sites and installation of equipment more difficult.

At Gencoa, the production and development of products is currently unaffected and 2020 has been a very busy year for the company

This has been particularly true in relation to the use of sputtered coatings to help in the fight against the pandemic, with a series of projects continuing to demonstrate the ability for these layers to kill viruses and microbes within minutes. The combination of nanostructure and other effects make these surfaces aggressive environments for the survival of biological species. The first products with such protection will be undergoing field trials before the end of the year.

AIMCAL R2R

The global coronavirus pandemic has led to significant challenges for the events industry, causing the cancellation of some of the vacuum industry's biggest annual events.

However, an increasing number of virtual events are now being put in place as an alternative to traditional conferences, and Gencoa will participate in one such virtual conference later this month.

AIMCAL's 2020 edition of the R2R Conference will be held from 19-23 October, with talks broadcast for online viewing and interaction.

On October 22 at 11.30am, Dermot Monaghan will present a talk on Highly Biocidal Transparent Vacuum Deposited Coatings for Touch Surfaces to help in the fight against COVID 19 and Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI).

For further details of the virtual conference, including a full timetable of talks, visit: www.aimcal.org/2020-r2r-usa-conference.html

Optix Rental Scheme

During the current production disruption in many sectors, Gencoa is making a large number of the Optix vacuum process analysers available to customers for a monthly rental to help with process development, troubleshooting and optimisation. Optix analyses process gases, vacuum plasmas, and provides outputs for process feedback control and Industry 4.0. Its unique optical spectrum based sensing and different remote plasma generation options, allow any type of vacuum process to be characterised including ALD and CVD.

The information provided by Optix is valuable and the robust nature of the device means that customers can apply it to any type of situation without a risk to the health of the device. That is why we are happy to make these units widely available for 1 month minimum periods. After you have completed the studies, we can pass the unit onto another user, or you can purchase the unit and we’ll deduct the rental costs.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please contact your local representative or sales@gencoa.com.

A video snapshot of its capabilities can be found at www.gencoa.com/optix or played directly on YouTube.

SVC Bulletin

As covered in the last edition of the newsletter, Gencoa have carried out extensive work on highly biocidal coatings which can eliminate bacteria and viruses within minutes. These coatings display a wide spectrum of antimicrobial and antiviral properties due to the surface coating being very hostile to organisms.

This work recently featured in an article published in the Summer 2020 edition of SVC Bulletin, and is available to read online. Click to view the SVC Bulletin Summer 2020 issue
