Temporary traffic light safety

Please continue to stop for red lights at temporary traffic lights for your own safety, as well as that of other road users, and our work crews.

With repair work happening, you’ll continue to see work sites and crews along State Highway 4.

Many of these sites have been reduced to a single lane, with temporary traffic lights controlling the flow of traffic. Roads are reduced to a single lane to help work crews perform repairs in a safe environment.

Te Oreore Underslip

On Te Oreore site, the pumps are running and doing a great job of keeping the ground water levels down. We’re looking to install permanent electricity to the site soon, so the pumps can be operated from off-site.

This work supports reconstructing the permanent road, which we’re hoping to get underway in the summer of 2021.

Hapokopoko Curve Rock

We’re very happy with the progress being made on Hapokopoko Rock Curve, located north of Fields Track. We had a 2-week delay to works on the site in September due to ground conditions, but work started up again on 25 September.

Despite the delay to work there's been good progress made on the MSE (mechanically stabilised earth) retaining walls - pictured.

We’re still aiming to finish construction on the site by December this year.

South Raupiu Retreat

Construction work for this site is still on hold due to an unstable slope face and wet weather conditions. Due to this delay and the necessary re-design, our expected completion date is now November/December this year.

Temporary traffic lights are operating on this site.

Kukuta Underslip

Two historic sites, including a pā site, are outside the works area but close to the north end of the realignment. Archaeologists were called in, but they’ve advised us that they deem the risk of discovery to be low.

Physical work on this site is planned to start March 2021. We’re currently working through property and design.
