Affordable electricity and flexibility in tariffs were key areas of focus last week, when Cotton Australia led a high-level electricity delegation to the St George region. More than 1,400 people from across the fashion and textiles industries gathered in Lisbon, Portugal last week for the Textile Exchange Conference. Cotton Australia’s Brooke Summers attended, connecting with brands, retailers, suppliers and other cotton programs to share insights on scaling sustainability solutions in a changing world. Each year, spray drift reports start coming in around December and January — but last season, they began much earlier. Taking a few minutes now to map your crops can make a real difference. Cotton Australia recently participated in the launch of a Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) and Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) initiative, Biosecurity in the Boardroom. The first shipment of cotton has been exported through the Port of Wyndham following the opening of the Kimberley Cotton Gin. The first load consists of about 60 containers, each carrying approximately 104 bales of cotton. Cotton Australia thanks Dr Cameron Archer AM, who has retired after 17 years as Founding Chair of the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA). His leadership has helped shape PIEFA’s national role in food and fibre education. Cotton Australia also welcomes incoming Chair Dr Simon Livingstone, former Principal of Marcus Oldham College.
