2. Horsham Downs Road will close on 9 Oct

Horsham Downs Road will close to through traffic at 6am on Tuesday 9 October 2018 for bridge construction. The new bridge will take Horsham Downs Road over the expressway.

The closure has been timed to coincide with the reopening of Kay Road, to ensure motorists have an alternative route in and out of the city.

Excavation and construction will take up to 14 months. The road will reopen in late 2019. Originally the closure period was expected to be 9 months. This has been extended to 14 months because the bridge building methodology has changed.

The closure location is just north of the Borman Road intersection (near the old chocolate factory). During the closure, access to properties along Horsham Downs Road will be maintained at all times, but there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access through the bridge site.

The photo below shows the expressway route has already been excavated up to each side of Horsham Downs Road. The intersection with Borman Road is at bottom left.

4. New site office at Birchwood Lane

Our earthworks team has set up a new site office with access off Birchwood Lane at Tamahere. Over the summer, this will be the base for the earthworks team working in the East West Gully, excavating and installing large culverts up to 75m long, and forming sand embankments on top for the East West Link Road that will connect Birchwood Lane to Cherry Lane.

The aerial photo shows Birchwood Lane in the foreground, with the bridge and Cherry Lane in the background.
