Hi there

Canterbury Golf AGM and Annual Awards

The restrictions of COVID Level 2 prevented holding the 2021 Canterbury Golf AGM and a rescheduled awards function at Russley Golf on 29 September. In the coming weeks a post will be made on social media when the awards are presented. As follows:

Alisia Ren and Cooper Moore – The Eagles Promising Juniors of the Year, presented at Canterbury Golf headquarters on 29 September.

Giles Beal and Neville Bamford – The Elmwood Trading Company Administrators of the Year, presented at The Elmwood Trading Company on 7 October.

We congratulate all the award recipients

September was a  busy month with the inaugural Futures Hub Championship for both the Selwyn Hub and the North-East Hub. With having 9 hole and 18 hole divisions, the competition has been well received and beneficial to the juniors whether it is gaining a better understanding of match-play or just more experience. We have been grateful to the Hub Clubs that have accommodated our round changes due to the August lockdown.

The Futures coaching programmes are filling up with continued re-bookings in both Selwyn and North-East Hub.  Due to popularity, we have also introduced 1 more future Girls programme at Russley taking that to 4 programmes running and a total of 30 participants. Moving into the summer months we are excited to be offering further programme opportunities with the advertisement of another Futures Coach..

Canterbury vs Aorangi Results

Canterbury North Women's Interclub

The Final round of Canterbury North Women's Interclub was played at Amberley on 20 September in fine conditions and the course in great order.

With the host club Amberley on top of the table but having the bye, Scargill sitting in second place had everything to play for against Hanmer Springs and delivered the result they desperately wanted, winning 3.5-.5 to win the 2021 competition. Other results on the day saw Amuri defeat Culverden 2.5-1.5 and Hawarden and Cheviot drawing 2-2.

Pictured right is the 2021 Champion Scargill team of, from left Helen Lang, Jan Moir, Nic Fairbairn and Emma MacFarlane.

It's been a stellar season for the Scargill ladies also winning the Women's National Teams District Final in April and both Helen and Emma were members of that successful team.

Yesterday's win against Coringa was Charteris Bay's fifteenth consecutive defence of the Boyle Cup since May 2018. Their final two challenges for the season are against Russley and Waimakariri Gorge.
