Existing closure at The Terrace

The Terrace Closure & Improvements

During the recent consultation period we received significant feedback from residents about the situation at The Terrace, residents were concerned about vehicles ignoring the road layout and attempting to exit The Terrace via the one-way system. We have decided to fully close access to the northern section of the The Terrace from Salisbury Street.  Walking and cycling access will still be provided.

The road closure will be achieved by building an island across the existing one-way access road. Feedback from residents has indicated that vehicles are undertaking unsafe vehicle manoeuvres by driving across the  grassed islands between the Saddle Road and The Terrace. To prevent this from happening a wooden fence will be built.

We will also be adding new 50km/h speed threshold signage and strips of red coloured surfacing on Salisbury Street. These improvements are aimed at reducing the speeds of vehicles approaching Ashhurst from the Saddle Road.

Works on these improvements has started with completion expected by 24 June 2019, weather dependent.

Wyndham Street Upgrade

Work on the Wyndham Street improvements are nearing completion.

The construction of concrete islands to slow vehicle speeds have recently been completed.  These islands will be planted with a selection of plants over the coming weeks to improve their effectiveness at reducing vehicle speeds. At the Wyndham Street and Oak Crescent intersection we have improved pedestrian access by incorporating crossing access points.

The last stage of the improvements is the asphalting of the road, which is taking place now. This seal will provide a smoother surface for drivers and some noise reduction for residents.

Kerb Improvements at the roundabout

Story

Story

Cambridge Ave/Mulgrave St intersection (Existing Roundabout)

We are about to start works on the alterations to the existing roundabout to make it easier for heavy vehicles to negotiate. Also, the surface of the roundabout is in need of maintenance with cracking at various locations.

The works include:

• Resealing the roundabout as the surface is starting to break up. At the same time we will be raising the seal level to match the concrete lip to provide a smoother and larger area for larger vehicles to navigate the roundabout.

• Some minor kerb changes to allow traffic to navigate the roundabout easier.

The kerb changes have been completed over the last few weeks. The resealing will occur during the week of the 10th June. During this week you can expect some delays when driving through this area. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We have arranged for a ‘westbound’ closure on the Saddle Road during this time to minimize disruption and lower the volumes of traffic travelling through this area while these works are occurring. The westbound closure will be from the 10-15th June and between the hours of 8.30am-2.30pm.

What else is happening?

• The new threshold signs are being installed on the Saddle Road lower river terrace and the upper river terrace at the entrance to Ashhurst. This work is to encourage vehicles to travel at a slower speed when entering the village.

• We have had surveyors working in Ashhurst and once we have the survey information we can progress further detailed design work.
