Cotton Australia is launching six new resources for schools with the aim of refreshing the teaching approach through the delivery of a series of engaging and educational activity sets aligned to the Design and Technology, and Science key learning areas of the Australian Curriculum (V9). Cotton Australia’s Regional Manager for St George, Dirranbandi and Mungindi Sally Rigney has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to her local community with Balonne Shire awarding her the Citizen of the Year award. Hosted by Scott Balsillie at Clyde, the event will showcase how growers are improving water use efficiency, with a panel discussion featuring growers and experts on bankless irrigation. A free online session will introduce new tools to help farmers strengthen leadership and people management. The SHIFT Virtual Open House will share insights from the CRDC-funded SHIFT project, which supports cotton businesses in attracting, developing, and retaining staff. Presenters Nicole McDonald and Jo Eady will introduce the SHIFT Team Leaders Guide and coaching guides designed to support on-farm teams. The session will be held via Zoom on February 18 at 1 pm AEDT. The President of the Macquarie Cotton Growers Association Billy Browning has published his Nuffield report exploring two innovative irrigation systems – Bank-less Channel Irrigation (BCI) and Centre Pivot Irrigation (CP) – along with improved soil management practices like stubble retention in furrow systems.
