Darwin River Dam update

10 March 2026

Update 2:30pm

Our crews are on site working to restore Darwin River Dam pump station to the Darwin network after the pump station was inundated yesterday.

Work is underway to bring the dam back into operation as quickly as is safely possible. Backup generators are being prepared and will be transported to site as part of the response, and we are actively managing the network while this work continues.

Residents in the Greater Darwin Region must only use water for essential purposes and continue to follow the NT Health boil water alert, including boiling water before drinking, brushing teeth and preparing baby formula.

Information on how to disinfect water is available on the SecureNT website.

We have not yet seen a drop in water demand and need to implement additional controls, including reducing water pressure across the network. As this occurs, customers may notice some discolouration in their water due to changes in pressure and flow.

Essential use includes:
• Drinking
• Cooking
• Basic hygiene – flushing the toilet, hand washing and short showers (under 3 minutes).

Our priority is the safety of our people, the community and our drinking water supply.

We are doing everything we can to restore normal operations as quickly and safely as possible. We thank Territorians for continuing to reduce their water use and will keep the community updated as more information becomes available.
