Line marking and minor traffic switch next week

Kia ora,

Early next week line marking, and a minor traffic shift are planned for SH1 at the north end of the Loop Road project. Carrying out this work requires a dry road and may be rescheduled if sufficient drying time between rainfall can’t be achieved. At this stage, we are hoping to carry the work out on Monday between normal business hours, but a variable message board at Lookout Hill will communicate the latest information.

The work involves line marking which will be applied to the fresh seal on the eastern side of SH1, with traffic then shifted onto it. This will allow for flexible safety posts to be removed on the western side. Traffic heading north will then be redirected back onto the western side of SH1, with southbound remaining on the eastern side. A 30km temporary speed limit and manual traffic control will be in place to manage the shifts.

This is a temporary alignment for winter, to help maintain the road until permanent surfacing takes place in spring. More information on the staging for the permanent works will be communicated in the coming months.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important work.
