Welcome to the Barnet Together Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet (26 January 2023).

Here's another handy edition of our fortnightly newsletter, with local funding opportunities, events and training. 

This week, we're excited to announce that we've given out £300,000 to local organisations as part of the Barnet Community Fund Main Grant! You can read all about the charities and groups we're supporting below...

Barnet Together awards £300,000 to local organisations to help with the cost-of-living crisis

We've been delighted to give financial support to over 40 Barnet organisations to help with their cost of living initiatives.

As part of the Barnet Community Fund 2022 Main Grant, Barnet Council provided us with £150,000 of match-funding so we're able to support other organisations in the sector. 

Successful applicants include Stonegrove Community Trust, Resources for Autism and African Refugee Community, for projects working on social inclusion, emotional wellbeing and warm space initiatives.

Winter Festival Event Funding

Barnet Council are accepting Expressions of Interest for community groups to host Winter Festival events up to the end of February. These can be faith, cultural or community based.

Groups must send the completed application to community@barnet.gov.uk at least three weeks before their event.

Synergi Small Grants Fund

Grants between £2000 and £3000 are available for groups led by Black people and people of colour with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress or trauma, to take action on mental health and racial justice.  

Deadline: Sunday 29th January 2023

Community Action Fund

The Community Action Fund exists to support grassroots campaigning and community organising in the UK. 
These grants are available to grassroots organisations that are building the power of their community and campaigning for long-term change.

Grants between £2,500 and £20,000 available

Deadline: Sunday 26th February 2023

BACE Holiday Activity and Food Fund

BACE Holiday Activity and Food Funding allows local organisations to offer free activities with food to children and young people across Barnet. 

BACE is also looking for new providers, to either deliver the complete programme of Easter, Summer and Winter or be considered to deliver part of the projects.

Building Strong Communities Fund

If you work with a community that has been socially or economically affected by COVID-19, and have an idea for a project that will help rebuild community strength, voice or connection, consider applying for final round of the Building Strong Communities Fund.

The Greater London Authority is inviting applications from organisations with an annual turnover of £50k or less. Be sure to look out for their upcoming information sessions.

Deadline: Monday 13th March

Warm Spaces Funding Boost

Are you welcoming people into a warm space in your community, or wanting to extend existing activities or services to support more people?

Your organisation could get up to £5,000 match funding to boost your Warm Space initiative from Co-Op and Crowdfunder.

Community Focus Winter Exhibition

Community Focus is holding their Winter Exhibition to celebrate student art, writing and craftwork. There will also be a market stall with the opportunity to buy some of the students' creations!

Free art workshops running on both days!

London Festival of Architecture briefing

Barnet has been chosen as a destination for this London Festival of Architecture (LFA) this year in June.

Find out more at this workshop,  weith opportunities to discuss event ideas with the LFA team and Barnet Council and connect with other event organisers in the area who might want to collaborate.

The Council will also share further information on the Community Fund, which will support specifically community led events, and eligibility for applying for funding.

Crowdfund Barnet Workshop

Do you have an idea for a community project? We want to hear from you! 

Crowdfund Barnet offers a creative and collaborative way to turn your idea for a local project into a reality. So far, over 2,000 backers have helped raise more than £770,000 for 31 amazing local projects.

Through Crowdfund Barnet everyone can create their own crowdfunding campaigns and back the ideas they love, with pledges of up to £5,000 available from Barnet Council. Let’s make a difference together.

New Integrated Care Systems briefing

Integrated Care Systems are geographical partnerships of organisations, including the NHS, Local Authorities and other local partners. 

These organisations come together to plan and deliver health and care services in the area.

Inclusion London is holding a briefing about how you might work with your local Integrated Care System.

Andy's Man Club

Andy's Man Club is a men's peer to peer support group. This men's only support group runs every Monday at 7pm. 

'We run talking groups for men who have either been through a storm,
are currently going through a storm or have a storm brewing in life.'

No registration is required - you can just turn up on the night!

International Women's Day - save the date!

Barnet Council are holding an International Women's Day celebration at the StoneX Stadium in Hendon.

The save the date is for 8 March, 10am to 3pm. 

Programme and further details will be on the Engage Barnet website closer to the time. If you would like to attend or to hold a stall, you can register on the Engage Barnet website. 

If you are unable to attend and would like to organise a women's event in your area, funding is available for Women's registered charities or constituted community groups to hold events in celebration of International Women's Day.

Voter ID changes

From May, a form of photo ID will be required to vote in elections.

These IDs will be accepted:

  • UK, Commonwealth or EEA passports
  • UK, Channel Islands or EEA driving license
  • Blue Badge Scheme Card
  • National identity card issues by and EEA state
  • Free photo travel pass like Oyster 60+ or a Freedom Pass
  • Biometric Immigration Document
  • PASS card issues by the National Proof of Age Standards Scheme bearing the PASS hologram.

If you don't have photo ID, you can sign up for a free Voter Authority Certificate online or via the post.

Second Chance: Refurbished laptops

Second Chance have just launched their Refurbished Laptop scheme, improving unwanted devices to give to people who need them.

If your organisation would like to give these laptops to people you support, you can apply to join the Second Chance network.

Barnet Mencap are looking for a focused individual to join their caring, passionate, and diverse team in supporting adults with moderate learning disabilities and autistic adults to live independently in housing situations of their choice. This role gives challenge and satisfaction and will suit someone that has:

  • Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults in a community setting
  • A good team member
  • Understanding of the issues faced by people with learning disability and autistic people living independently and the skills to meet their practical, social and emotional needs
  • A ‘Person Centred Planning’ ethos
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good record keeping skills

It supports local VCFSEs with funding, training, resources and advice, and offers a platform for stronger sector representation, voice and connection. Barnet Together services are available to all members of Young Barnet Foundation, Volunteering Barnet and Inclusion Barnet, with each partner organisation bringing their own specialisms, knowledge and assets.
