The Creative County Grant Program is Accepting Applications Until November 18, 2024. The program was established in 2023 as an outcome of the County of Lambton Cultural Plan and it supports innovative arts, culture, and heritage projects that enhance the quality of life in Lambton County. Local organizations are invited to apply for matching funds to bring new, creative initiatives to life. Applications for the 2025 intake are open until November 18, 2024. Funding for Businesses in Southern Ontario is Accepting Applications Until December 20, 2024 for the Fall Intake FedDev Ontario offers no-interest, repayable contributions from $125,000 to $10 million for businesses in southern Ontario. Eligible projects focus on innovation, productivity, and market expansion, with a focus on promoting clean economic growth, growth companies, technology, industrial transition, and automotive suppliers. Apply by December 20, 2024, for the fall intake. Foodpreneur Advantage is a regional collaboration of Small Business Enterprise Centres. These investments are designed to address ongoing labour shortages, support the resilience of Ontario’s agri-food sector, and ensure that farmers and food processors have access to a skilled and dependable workforce. Spotlight on Sarnia Harbour The Sarnia Harbour is strategically situated at the centre of the Great Lakes, on the St. Lawrence Seaway System. It is located at the south end of Lake Huron on the eastern shore of the St. Clair River, one of the busiest inland waterways in the world. It serves as a vital hub for marine transportation and industrial activity in Southwestern Ontario. Managed by the City of Sarnia, this deep-water port is comprised of lands and water lots collectively forming the Government Wharf and Warehouse Area, the East Dock and the Cestar Dock, providing essential infrastructure and services to support the region’s economy, accommodating vessels of all sizes with facilities for berthage, storage, and repairs and maintenance. This critical infrastructure project is designed to facilitate the transportation of large industrial components, supporting local businesses and attracting new investment to Sarnia-Lambton. With the new dock in place, Sarnia-Lambton is better positioned to accommodate the needs of industries that rely on transporting oversized loads, reducing logistical challenges and boosting the region's competitiveness in the industrial sector. This achievement underscores Sarnia's commitment to economic growth and its role as a vital hub for manufacturing and heavy industry. City of Sarnia's Economic Development Master Plan The City of Sarnia is in the process of creating an Economic Development Master Plan (EDMP) to strategically shape the community’s economic future. This plan will guide Sarnia’s growth, focusing on attracting new businesses, supporting local talent, and building a resilient economy that benefits all residents. The EDMP will leverage Sarnia's unique strengths to drive investment, foster job creation, and enhance the overall quality of life. Through this plan, the City of Sarnia aims to identify opportunities for business attraction and retention, address workforce needs, and ensure infrastructure and land use align with long-term economic goals. Additionally, the EDMP will promote sustainable development practices to safeguard the local environment while encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship within the community.
