Discover, Explore, Connect and Experience – Connecting Hutt Valley Students To The World of Tech

ZX Security

As part of our Education to Employment programme, ZX Security recently hosted 12 Hutt Valley students, at their cyber security business in Wellington, to help them raise their knowledge of cyber security and consider a career in the technology industry. Simon Howard, the owner of ZX Security, talked with the students about the cyber security industry, the range of jobs available, entry qualifications and careers, and salaries.

Simon also chatted with the students about his staff, the roles in their business and the projected growth in opportunities. He also gave examples of projects that they undertake, where their work comes from and what they look for when they hire staff. He also provided them with some good tips on getting started as a Penetration Tester in NZ and where they could source resources that would assist them

Huge thanks and acknowledgement to both Simon and his team for hosting the students and to Cath Randall, Workforce Development Specialist at Wellington NZ, for assisting with the coordination of this industry visit.

If you’re a local employer, who is interested in participating in our Education to Employment programme, please contact Amanda Walters at amanda@hvchamber.org.nz

Wellington Regional Economic Development Plan 2022-32 Launches

The Wellington Regional Economic Development Plan 2022-32 has been released.

It’s the first time a collective economic plan of this magnitude has been seen in the Wellington-Hutt Valley-Wairarapa-Horowhenua region. It represents more than 12 months of conversations and mahi across our region with 10 councils, iwi, business groups, Te Matarau a Māui (Māori economic development strategy), sector groups, central Government and many others.

The plan includes 33 initiatives to provide a clear statement of agreed regional economic priorities to support partnerships and funding proposals. This signals to central Government and others where we believe they are best-placed to provide support and gives everyone in the region a united direction.

You can read the full report and see the 33 initiatives here.

Cyber Resilience, Risk Remediation and Cyber Insurance Seminar in October

Protecting your business from cyber attacks is more than having cybersecurity tools or an IT team. A successful cyber attack could cost you operational downtime, loss of data, reputational damage, and lost revenue.

Being cyber resilient means knowing what needs to be protected, what risks you face, and having plans for threat detection, response, and most importantly, knowing how to recover as rapidly as possible from cyber incidents.

There will be a panel Q&A session after the presentation where representatives from IT Works, Intelligensia and Crombie Lockwood will be available to answer your questions about:

  • Cyber resilience
  • How to secure your environment to ensure you have the greatest protection
  • How to keep your staff educated and aware of the risk
  • How to ensure you have adequate coverage in the event of a cyber breach.
