2024/25 Tamariki Rangatahi RFP

We have published the RFP for the 2024/25 Tamariki Rangatahi funding round. The purpose of this targeted audience funding is to support the creation of quality, reo Māori content that will contribute to the normalisation and wellbeing of te reo Māori through a Tamariki or Rangatahi audience. We are seeking content ideas that are relatable, age-appropriate, supports learning, and an immersive engagement with te reo Māori.

Te Māngai Pāho expects to allocate up to $5,000,000 (plus GST) but reserves to its sole discretion the right to contribute a higher or lesser amount in this funding round.

Tamariki content:
Funding for Tamariki content is available for age-appropriate content that contains 100% te reo Māori for Fluent audiences. Themes that support learning and growth are encouraged.

Rangatahi content:
Funding for Rangatahi content is available for age-appropriate content that contains 70-100% te reo Māori for Fluent audiences. Themes should be relevant to rangatahi and reflect a world that is appealing to them. Themes and contexts that demonstrate a Māori worldview and genuine use of te reo Māori will stand out.

Applications should:

  • Demonstrate that your project is ready to go into production
  • Present a rautaki reo or mahere reo
  • Provide a promotion and marketing plan
  • Provide a full and practical budget for your project
  • We encourage the provision of data to support rationale, including previous series audience insights and market knowledge (highly recommended)
  • Let us know if your project has potential collateral benefits for te reo Māori, or the content creation sector

There is a lot happening in our world right now. We are very excited at both the quality and scale of projects submitted to the Joint TMP/NZ On Air funding round. The decision letters for that round will be sent on Friday 19th April.

NZ On Air and Te Māngai Pāho have agreed to continue the joint funding initiative in 2024/25. It is likely that the focus on more ambitious, high-quality content will continue. Especially, since the revised settings for the Screen Production Rebate (SPR), now allow for all types of domestic productions to access both the rebate and other Government funding, including that of NZ On Air and Te Māngai Pāho

We were also pleased with the range of proposals submitted in response to our ROI for General Audience Round One of the 2024/25 financial year. There was a total of 47 applications submitted to the round. Decision letters for that round were distributed on Monday of this week and 29 applicants have been provided with the RFP for the round and invited to submit full proposals.

We are all constantly reminded that the media landscape is rapidly changing, the announcements at both NewsHub and TVNZ in recent weeks really brings that home. Te Māngai Pāho is monitoring developments very closely and will aim to remain agile and capable of moving quickly to ensure Māori content creators and platforms are able to deliver high quality Māori content to our audiences. Kia tau te mauri ki runga i a tātou!
