Pathy Foundation Fellowship: Applications Now OpenApplications for the next cohort of the Pathy Foundation Fellowship is open until Nov. 15. This is a 12-month experiential-learning program in youth leadership and community engagement. Each year, up to 12 selected Fellows receive state-of-the-art training, extensive support, and $50,000 in funding to support their growth as leaders, make a meaningful impact in a community they care about, and acquire skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. This is the only program in Canada that provides young people with a fully funded opportunity to dedicate a year of their early career to an initiative they are passionate about, in any field, sector, and community across the world. |

Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship 2025-2026The 2025-2026 Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship application for an outstanding international student from an African country is available. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2026. Eligible recipients will be full-time students proceeding from one year to another in any program of study at Carleton University. Consideration will be given to students in financial need. Application is required. Endowed in 2005 by friends, family and colleagues in honour of Richard J. Van Loon, Carleton’s 10th President. |
Funded Summer Research Visits in JapanThe Japan Society for the Promotion of Science offers the JSPS Summer Program for Canadian graduate students and postdocs to visit a Japanese university or research institute for 2 months (June to August). JSPS covers travel expenses and provides an allowance. It’s a great opportunity to see Japan and conduct research with experts abroad. The deadline for Summer 2026 is Dec. 3. Department of National Defence ConferenceThe MINDS Team at the Department of National Defence invites students to the Women, Peace and Security Conference 2025: From Policy to Practice – 25 Years of WPS (#WPS25) from Oct. 28-29. 2025 Fields-Carleton Distinguished LectureIn this year's Fields-Carleton Distinguished Lecture, explore how graph theory models real-world challenges—and why solving them often gets tricky. This Lecture will be held on Oct. 16 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Health Sciences Building and will dig into what makes a graph complex, when solutions don’t come easily, and take a brief historical tour. No prior knowledge needed. The Lecture will be presented by Prof. Maria Chudnovsky, Department of Mathematics at Princeton University. |

Meet with an ACT Advisor to receive individualized, adapted and ongoing guidance from a strengths-based approach. Topics addressed during ACT Advising appointments and resources provided to students may include career exploration, job search and networking strategies as well as resume and interview preparation. Carleton University master’s student Theo Pana has been awarded a 2025 Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence (VSAI).
The Vector Institute awarded scholarships this year to 120 top AI graduate students across Ontario. The $17,500 merit-based scholarship not only helps to fund Pana’s research but provides a community of top AI researchers and teams from Canadian enterprises with which to connect and learn from.
“I was in shock when I first heard as I was not expecting to get the entry VSAI scholarship as it is so competitive,” says Pana. “I am really grateful, honoured and excited.”
Pana, who is just starting his master’s program in Cognitive Science after completing his Bachelor of Cognitive Science with a Concentration in Computation at Carleton, will focus his research on modeling human cognition with AI systems to better understand the mind.
