Doing the 4 minute quiz can help you to learn more about yourself - and when you compare your results, more about others too. Do you like to boogie? Or are you more of the sporty type? Do you believe in ghosts? What do you look for most in a friend? The quiz is an easy way to explore what you have in common with people from different backgrounds and it's fun too! We hope you all will join in and share the quiz with others. Arohanui, NAMES ARE SPECIAL...We’ve been talking about people who feel they have to change their name when ordering a takeaway (or in another situation) because people might have difficulty spelling or pronouncing it. There is often a story behind where our names come from and why we have the names we have. Taking the time to get someone's name right shows we care. Check out @Anpulondon for this simple resource: How to Respect My Ethnic Name. SHARE KAISharing kai helps break down barriers, whether cultural, personal, or religious. The Christchurch Invitation, Mahia te Aroha, suggests paying it forward with a coffee, trying new cuisine, or donating food to a food bank to demonstrate compassion. They’re running a series of shared lunches in organisations – drop them a line if you want to be involved. ŌTAUTAHI URBAN PLAY Gapfiller’s Urban Play project reckons Ōtautahi Christchurch has “good play bones” with its pump tracks, green spaces, playgrounds, and cool murals. Their mission is to encourage Ōtautahi to explore more and diverse ways to play, including a range of ‘serious play’ initiatives to help address pressing social and environmental issues. InCommon loves its aim of creating even more Dance-o-Mats and stepping stones across a river because it gives us more opportunities to meet people who are different from us. MEET HOLLY - OUR NEW INCOMMON COORDINATOR Holly grew up in Canterbury but has lived and worked in Wellington, Fiji and Bangladesh. A few years ago, Holly returned to Christchurch with her husband Jope, who is from Suva, Fiji. Holly and Jope have a toddler, Marlon, and live next door to Holly’s parents. Holly loves learning about different cultures and is passionate about celebrating our differences and commonalities. COMING SOON... OUR INCOMMON TOOLKITOur new InCommon toolkit will help activate live InCommon quiz sessions that you can run in your organisations. Exploring answers to the quiz is one way for people to connect through the things they have in common with others, which will inspire a curiosity to learn more. The quiz sessions can be adapted to the time you have available, and the toolkit includes facilitator notes and links to supporting resources.
