Welcome to the latest update on planned roadworks for Southland’s state highways. This update is designed to keep you informed about what’s happening across the region’s highways and help you plan ahead.

Southland highways with work this week

SH1 Bluff Highway
SH6 Winton-Lorneville Highway and Athol-Five Rivers Highway
SH90 near Gore
SH96 Glencoe
SH93 Old Coach Road
SH94 Te Anau-Milford highway and at the Homer Tunnel
SH94 Lumsden-Riversdale 
SH96 Winton-Wreys Bush Highway
SH96 Winton-Hedgehope Highway
SH98 Lorneville Dacre Road

 

 

Invercargill to Dunedin

SH93 Old Coach Road near Kaiwera and Waikana Roads: Stabilisation and pavement repairs from 26 to 30 January, 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH1 Dunedin Green Island Southern Motorway night closures: Southbound closure 18 to 22 January from 7pm to 6am, for essential road surface replacement work. Full road closure with detours that may add 5 to 10 minutes to your journey. Follow all detour and advisory signs. More details here 

 

 

Invercargill and Queenstown to Milford Sound

SH94 Te Anau to Milford Highway at Sinclair Road: Road rebuild work will continue until 28 January from 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH94 Te Anau to Milford Highway near Lower Hollyford Road: Chip sealing work will take place on 26 January, from 7am to 7pm. Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected.

SH94 Milford Highway at Homer Tunnel: Asphalt resurfacing will take place from 26 January to 5 February, from 6.30am to 7pm. Minimal delays expected.

 

 

Work on key state highways across Southland

SH1 Invercargill to Bluff: Chip sealing will take place at various locations between Motu Rimu Road and Duck Creek on 28 and 29 January from 7am to 7pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH90 between Waikaka Road and Cunningham Road: A road rebuild will continue Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm until around 31 March. Traffic will be managed by temporary traffic lights with a 30 km/h speed limit.

SH94 Riversdale: Chip sealing on 29 January from 7am to 7pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes

SH94 Lumsden to Riversdale:  Road repairs near Old Balfour Road and Croydon Bush on 27 and 28 January from 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH94 Waimea Highway near Mandeville: Drainage improvements  will take place from 28 to 30 January 7am-6pm.Expect up to 10 minute delays

SH96 Glencoe: Road stabilising repairs will take place near Glencoe from 19 to 23 January, from 7am to 6pm. Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected.

SH96 Winton-Wreys Bush Highway at Heddon Bush Road A road rebuild will continue until around 30 January from 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH96 Winton-Hedgehope Highway, near Browns: Work at Zwies Road for a highway rebuild will continue until 31 January from 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

SH98 Lorne Dacre Road: Stabilisation repairs near Rakahouka from 26 to 28 January, and then near Mill Road North and Lorneville from 28 to 30 January. Work will run from 7am to 6pm. Expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
