This month, we're delighted to showcase the stunning work of local artist Verily Slatter from Stone Bridge Art Gallery, whose beautiful landscapes are now featured in the Post Office & Visitor Information Centre window display. Capturing the character, colours and beauty of our region, Verily's artwork is a wonderful celebration of Yackandandah and surrounds.

There is plenty happening around town, with Yack N Waffle reopening on 24 September with a new school holiday menu. And yes… Roxanne’s famous waffle on a stick is returning!

Don't forget that Daylight Savings begins on Sunday 4 October, bringing longer evenings and even more time to enjoy yourself. As always, if your business has news, events or updates you'd like us to share, we'd love to hear from you.

Surreal McCoys at the Star Hotel

3pm - 5pm

Settle in for a relaxed Sunday afternoon with The Surreal McCoys, a talented trio bringing classic honky-tonk country to The Star. Featuring country music veterans Pete Denahy, Dave Patterson and Jeff Mercer, the band performs favourites from Ernest Tubb and Buck Owens alongside original songs in the same traditional style. With six Golden Guitars between them, this free live show promises an afternoon of authentic country music and great entertainment.

Yackandandah Scouts, in partnership with Plasticwise Yackandandah and Yackandandah Community Centre, are hosting this year’s Yackandandah Community Garage Sale.

Explore approximately 30 garage sales and 15 market stalls across town, all listed on the official event map. Pick up your map from Yackandandah Primary School from 8am and spend the day discovering bargains, pre-loved treasures and local community stalls.

Come and enjoy a selection of the region's finest produce and products ranging from olives, handcrafted soaps and candles to wines, plants, clothing, jewellery and more.

Proudly facilitated by the Yackandandah Lions Club. Be sure to grab a bacon and egg roll from their volunteer-run barbeque while you are there.

From the Beechworth Visitor Information Centre

It has been a busy time in Beechworth, with visitors and locals enjoying a fascinating look into the region's geological history at the Burke Museum. A recent talk by Oskar Lindenmayer, Collection Manager of Mineralogy and Petrology at Museums Victoria Research Institute, celebrated the life and work of eminent geologist E.J. Dunn, whose newly acquired specimen cabinet is now on display at the museum. Presented by the Friends of the Burke, the event was a wonderful opportunity to explore an often-overlooked chapter of Beechworth's rich past.

Looking ahead, the annual Beechworth Beer Run returns on Saturday 3 October. Visitors planning a walk or a bike ride should note the Indigo Epic Trail will be closed from the Yackandandah end from 8.30am until approximately 12 noon heading east to west. With other trail sections remaining open during this period.

Free School Holiday Sci-Fi Movies at Last St Speakeasy

Something out of this world is landing at Last St. Gather the family for free sci-fi movie screenings featuring aliens, robots, time travel and dinosaurs on the venue's biggish screen. With movie marathons, plenty of popcorn and a relaxed atmosphere.

Celebrate the perfect pairing of trail running and craft beer at the Beechworth Beer Run. Created by the team at Bridge Road Brewers, this unique event showcases the stunning Indigo Epic Trail while celebrating the creativity of local brewing. Choose from the challenging 30km Full Pint, the scenic 15km loop, the 5km Quencher or the 2.5km Kids Cordial Cruze, making it suitable for runners of all ages and abilities. Set in the beautiful historic township of Beechworth, the weekend combines outdoor adventure, great food, family fun and a well-earned crafty pint at the finish line.

Kick off AsylumFest with a screening of cult horror favourite Wolf Creek 2 in the reportedly haunted Bijou Theatre. Featuring a four-metre screen, powerful sound system and comfortable lounge seating, this special event also includes an introduction and informal Q&A with writer Aaron Sterns, who co-wrote the film and authored the prequel novel Wolf Creek: Origin.
