Making it safer and easier to get around West Melton
Kia ora
We want to let you know how the project for improvements to the intersection of State Highway 73 and Weedons Ross Road is progressing since we last contacted you earlier this year.
The project includes:
-
traffic signals at the intersection (including pedestrian crossing phases)
-
a new road linking Weedons Ross Road with West Melton Road (to the south of St Paul's Church)
-
a new roundabout at the intersection of the link road with Weedons Ross Road opposite Kingsdowne Drive, and
-
shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project concept has been approved and the project has progressed to design. This stage involves design of the roadworks and traffic signals as well as how to protect and relocate services and the stockwater race, lighting, stormwater management and landscaping. A key consideration is how the works can be constructed safely while minimising disruption to surrounding properties and businesses as well as to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Once all this is worked through, checked and costed a contract will be prepared and the work will be tendered for construction.
In parallel, work is progressing on property acquisition and planning consent.
How long these processes take will determine the timing of construction. The current aim is to undertake work on the stockwater race and other services next winter, 2022, with the main roading works over summer 2022/23.
Thank you for your patience and we’ll be back in contact as the project progresses.
Ngā mihi (Kind regards),
The West Melton Project Team
