The Distributed Energy Integration Program – or DEIP – is a collaborative network of government agencies, market authorities, peak industry bodies and consumer associations aimed at maximising the value of DER for all energy users.

DEIP Dives into the future of DER integration
|
|
Earlier this month, ARENA and the ANU co-hosted over 130 people at a DEIP Dive event in Canberra. The day explored the role that technology can play in the public interest, shared insights into ARENA's EV smart charging portfolio and DER market integration trials, and discussed the roles of EVs and DER in Australia's future energy system.

The cutting edge of end-to-end DER integration
|
|
A new DEIP report sheds light on four sophisticated DER market integration trials - AEMO's Project EDGE, Western Power's Project Symphony, Evoenergy's Project Converge and Ausgrid's Project Edith.
These trials are exploring how DER can deliver services and operate in energy markets, while adhering to the physical limits of the system and satisfying consumers’ needs and preferences.

New website supports innovation and technology advancement in the energy market
|
|
The AER, in partnership with ARENA, AEMO, AEMC and the Essential Services Commission of Victoria, has recently launched the Energy Innovation Toolkit website to support energy innovators and start-ups navigate complex regulatory frameworks. The website provides guidance on how new technologies and business models can be delivered under the current regulatory framework, with a trial waiver function and rule change process to be launched soon.

The Port Kembla Steelworks Renewables and Emissions Reduction Study released its first Lessons Learnt Report focusing on supply chain constraints for the bulk supply of biochar in Australia.
Bioenergy
Renergi has released the third Lessons Learnt Report from Energy from Waste Through Pyrolysis project and provides insights into the importance of drying feedstocks for pyrolysis processes.
Pumped Hydro Energy Storage
The Centennial Underground Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project has published its Final Report outlining the viability of underground coal mining voids as potential pumped hydro energy systems.

On 28 July 2022, ARENA hosted the Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Insights Summit that explored the challenges and opportunities of TES for industrial heat processes. Watch the recording here.
Solar PV
The fifth report in the Generator Operations Series Benchmarking large-scale solar PV performance in Australia using satellite weather data proposes a method to remotely determine the performance ratio of solar farms using satellite weather data without needing ground-based measuring equipment.

The Business Renewables Centre Australia’s Final Report summarises the work undertaken to establish the resource centre and marketplace platform to facilitate the uptake of corporate PPAs.
