Thank you for subscribing; we are excited about sharing the latest updates in your neighbourhood. The name Hononga Hapori was recently given to us. Hononga means ‘connection’ or ‘relationship’ and Hapori refers to ‘community’. Together, it highlights the connection between community and housing well-being and the relationship between a thriving community and the availability of healthy homes. At Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, we not only provide warm, dry homes but also support communities and build neighbourhoods. We want to work alongside communities to help build thriving, sustainable and inclusive communities. We have some stories to share about our construction milestones and the work we are doing to support our customers, connect with our communities and partner with others. Read on to find out more and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions or feedback.

Whanganui residents get inspired to eat well on a budgetFrom busy lives to raising a family, many people struggle to find the time or inspiration to cook healthy, nutritious meals within a budget for themselves and their whānau. It was this that led Kāinga Ora and UCOL | Te Pūkenga to join forces and organise a free cooking class for the Whanganui community, including Kāinga Ora customers, to share tips, tricks and inspiration for eating well on a budget. The class is a perfect example of how we are working with community organisations to support our customers and build sustainable, thriving and inclusive communities. Kāinga Ora customer Silo attended the course because she is interested in cooking but sometimes struggles with finding healthier alternatives for things like cream and cheese. “The facilitator shared many helpful tips and tricks for healthy eating on a budget. I’m looking forward to sharing these ideas with other people – I think I will make the enchiladas for my community group soon!” 5 tips for cooking healthy meals within a budget from UCOL course facilitator, Ian:
