Updates

Last month we hosted Community-led Tourism Week- a series of conversations all focussing on a community-led approach to tourism in Scotland. Watch the recorded sessions here.

Have you seen the The SENScot Story? Take a look at our incredible history.

Eat Sleep Ride CIC are hosting an in-person Community Learning Exchange on Thursday 26th May. This social enterprise is an approved horse riding school offering lessons and hacking to the public and work with people experiencing mental health problems, those that have suffered abuse, lived in areas of high deprivation and other challenges such as drug/alcohol addiction.  See the programme for the day here and book here.

Cranhill Development Trust are also hosting an in-person Community Learning Exchange on Wednesday 18th May. Cranhill Development Trust has an over-arching place-based objective to meet the needs of people in this specific geographical area. At this visit you’ll have the opportunity to hear about their approach and recent developments from local people and to visit the community shop, post office and garden. To join see here.

There is one day left to respond to the National Performance Framework: Ambitions into Action survey by Scottish Government. Read more here

The Scottish Government is conducting a survey to gather information on what adaptions businesses have made and continue to implement to manage COVID-19.  Take part in the Scottish Government COVID-19 Adaptations Survey.

Tourism & Heritage

Falkland Estate is hosting a Build School from Tuesday 10th to Friday 13th May. Building on Falkland’s reputation as a place of environmental stewardship, major cultural events such as Big Tent Festival and the birthplace of 1000 huts campaign, Falkland Stewardship Trust have now initiated a new Field of Learning on which to host summer schools and environmental activities.

Build Schools will be a key feature of this. The Build School this May will include courses on: timber framed building with self-build architect and trainer, Duncan Roberts; introduction to small scale hut-building with Cross-Cut Coop; and Earth and Fibre in Huts and Homes with Becky Little and Daniel Postma. Other contributions through the week from Seaton Baxter (Professor of ecological design) and Chartered Engineer, Gordon Seaton. For further information and to watch short taster videos, check out the Field of Learning on Falkland Estate’s website

Euan’s Guide launched their Access Survey results highlighting the negative impact Covid-19 has had on access. Read more here.

The Scottish Thistle Awards nominations and entries are now open. It would be great to see some social enterprises recognised for their contribution- get voting!

Visit Scotland launched their new campaign ‘Keep Scotland Unspoiled’ to help both visitors and locals enjoy Scotland safely and responsibly. See more and get involved here.

Creative Industries

Findhorn Bay Arts celebrated the end of their AMP:Music Project- creative programme of music making, industry workshops and artist mentorship for young music makers in Moray.  See their celebration here.

In a partnership with Creative Scotland, Counterpoints Arts is running the Mutual Affinities Learning Lab Programme which is offering individual grants of up to £1,250 for artists to come together with Scottish arts and community organisations including Alchemy Film and Arts, Art27, Deveron Projects, Govanhill Baths and Highland Print Studio as well as international practitioners from Poland, Beirut, Lebanon and Berlin to help stimulate new ideas and models of mutual support including future opportunities for collaborative work and residencies.

Following my evidence to the Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee, the MSPs asked for a view on progress made in delivering the preventative agenda.  Thank you to all who responded to the survey.  See the response here.
