Hello PHINS!We are so excited to kick off NSO and help welcome the Class of 2027 with you all! In this email, you will find information regarding shift sign-ups, move-in, in-person training, and the PHINS Playbook! Stay tuned for your specific PHINS Orientation Group number and list of new students! If you have any questions regarding NSO activities, please feel free to contact us at provost-nso-ai@pobox.upenn.edu. We can't wait to see you soon! - Luke, Bella, and Raven Move-In DetailsThis is a reminder that if you are moving into a College House, you can begin moving in tomorrow, Saturday, August 19 starting at 2pm. Make sure to check-in at the information desk of your College House when you move in. If you are not living in a College House (off-campus or fraternity/sorority housing) this early move-in period is not applicable to you, unless you have received specific communication expressing otherwise. We ask that in either case, please be ready to attend the mandatory in-person training happening Sunday, August 20. In regards to dining, our office covers your meals beginning on Saturday, August 19 through Monday, August 28. As a PHINS volunteer, if you complete all your requirements of the position, our office pays for every meal that you eat during NSO in the dining cafes. You are limited to using one meal swipe per meal period and we do not provide guest swipes for you. Additionally, we provide food for you at the PMA/PAFA events. If you are on a dining plan for the fall semester, that will become effective the first day of classes. Mandatory In-Person TrainingThis Sunday, August 20, is our mandatory in-person PHINS Training, held in Meyerson B1. We ask that you begin arriving to the doors of the Weitzman School of Design Building on the Fisher Fine Arts Library side at 9:30am to pick up your merch. The training will cover important responsibilities, shift duties, and a group photo! It is projected to run until approximately 2pm and lunch will be provided. Sign-Up for Shifts!Today is your last day to sign up for shifts! You have until tonight, Friday, August 18 at 11:59pm to sign-up via our SignUpGenius website. For regular PHINS, this is a reminder that you need to sign up for a minimum of 5 shifts, one of which must either be a shift helping out with PMA (for PHINS in the Class of 2026) or PAFA (for PHINS in the Class of 2025 and 2024). We ask tPHINS to sign up for 7 shifts. Please remember to only sign-up for shifts that pertain to your PHINS designation. Regular PHINS should only be signing up for PHINS shifts, not tPHINS or PHINS Coordinator shifts. 2023 NSO Event Calendar is Live!New Student Orientation (NSO) is packed with events that prepare new students for their life at Penn! Check out the many events that are happening during the week. New students will likely turn to you, the PHINS, for help, so please familiarize yourself with the times of some of the important events! You may recognize many of these events from your PHINS shifts as well. PHINS PlaybookIn addition to in-person training, we have put together the PHINS Playbook for your reference. The Playbook contains much of the content covered in training, but is a comprehensive source of information about the PHINS role. If you have questions about your role and responsibilities, you can likely find the answer in the Playbook. Please take time to review it these next few days. Connect with NSO!
