Strengthening Primary Care in California

Despite high spending on health care, primary care, a crucial element for better population health, is underfunded in the United States. In California, where over 65% of physicians work in solo or small practices, primary care providers often lack resources and technology, contributing to subpar patient outcomes.

Through the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative, CQC and partner Integrated Healthcare Association are working to address these issues and strengthen the state's delivery system through critical efforts such as the development of a common value-based payment model that increases investment in primary care.

View Our Impact

The Advanced Primary Care Measurement Pilot highlighted several opportunities for improvement in primary care delivery in California which underscore the important role that robust data collection plays in accessing and understanding practice performance when it comes to advanced primary care — leading to improved patient outcomes.

Pathway to Birthing Care

The California Department of Health Care Services is developing a comprehensive Birthing Care Pathway guide Medi-Cal members from conception through 12 months postpartum. In support of this effort to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality and address disparities, CQC has formed a postpartum sub-workgroup comprised of more than 20 experts in maternity, primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, and community birth.
