Announcement Youth and the Juvenile Justice System—2022 National Report Justice Department Announces Funding Opportunities to Support Public Safety in Tribal Communities On January 5, 2023, the Department of Justice announced the opening of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) period for comprehensive funding to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. CTAS funding supports crime prevention activities, victim services, and coordinated community responses to violence against Native American individuals. Administered by the Department’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), CTAS is online at https://www.justice.gov/tribal/open-solicitations. The solicitation will provide instructions on how federally recognized tribal governments and tribal consortia can apply for funding. SPI Webinar Recent Findings From the Field Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the SMART Policing Initiative, this webinar will discuss several recent findings and lessons learned since the inception of SPI. Since SPI began in 2009, 114 SPI projects have been funded to test and evaluate evidence-based policing tactics and strategies. This webinar will feature three SPI sites—Anniston, Alabama, Miami, Florida, and Salisbury, North Carolina—that recently completed their evaluation research. Representatives from each site will highlight the Smart Policing process implemented (data analysis, strategy development, and implementation), as well as the process and outcome evaluation findings as they relate to their projects:

New Website Newly Launched Website Offers Resources for Justice and Health Partners On the heels of President Biden’s signing of the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Reauthorization Act, the Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), is thrilled to announce the launch of the new website for the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program. The website will provide resources to help communities create interventions at each point in the justice system. Now, policymakers and practitioners will have easy access to national best practices for promoting public safety and connecting people to treatment services while reducing unnecessary criminal justice contact.
