AWH Human Research Ethics Committee News The AWH Human Research Ethics Committee is made up of researchers, members of the community, health professionals, lawyers and pastoral carers. In 2023 our HREC reviewed 16 new projects. Recently, we welcomed Tegwyn McManamny, AWH Director Clinical Safety and Quality, as Chairperson and inducted several new members into the 'community member', 'professional care' and 'research' categories. Our new HREC Chairperson, Tegwyn McManamny New Clinical Trials Every year our health service takes part in several national or international clinical trials. Here are some recent trials we've become involved in: Implementing best-practice cardiac rehabilitation: The Quality Improvement in Cardiac Rehabilitation (QUICR) Cluster-Randomised Controlled Trial with Sydney University and MRFF funding. Local Principle Investigator is Ivy Biacsi, Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator. Duration 2 years. Investigating the effectiveness of falls prevention alarms in hospitals by removing or reducing their
use with Monash University. Our hospital is under the control arm and has entered the second phase of the project. Local Principle Investigators are Anna Griffith and Marina van Leeuwen. Duration 2 years.

New National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research The National Statement is a key guidance document in health and medical research. The new version clearly defines levels of risk and outlines the responsibilities of researchers and their organisations. The Regional Research Teaching Hub (RRTH) has developed the @research website which delivers health services research training resources for Victorian health care professionals working across regional, rural and remote communities.
