Thank you, A unique art exhibition featuring works created by the public, alongside patients and staff from the mental health units of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, has officially opened at Humber Street Gallery in Hull. This three-day event, launched in celebration of how art and creativity can support mental health, highlights the transformative power of art therapy in aiding service users on their journey to recovery. During the opening ceremony, Michele Moran spoke to attendees, emphasising the ongoing significance of art: "We were blown away by the response to request for contributions and you can see for yourself the thought, passion, and time that went into the submissions we received. Each piece tells a story of healing, connection, and self-expression, which reminds us how art can be a powerful tool for mental well-being. Art is not just for galleries; it’s for all of us. Whether it's painting, drawing, writing, or music, we can all use creativity as a means of coping with stress and enhancing our mental health.” Interested in staying up-to-date with the latest news from the Trust? Our Trust’s NHS Cadet programme, working in partnership with St John Ambulance, provided local young people aged between 14 and 18 years with the opportunity to access a broad and accessible training programme. These Cadets have now graduated from the 11-month programme equipped with a range of skills and experience in the healthcare industry. The NHS Cadet programme enables young people to learn tangible skills and more about what it is like working in healthcare, from a range of inspiring professional speakers. The NHS Cadets develop key skills, boost their self-confidence, and get to explore careers in the healthcare sector. Cadets from both Hull and East Riding had the opportunity to meet staff from across the Trust, including professionals from CAMHS and Allied Health. There was also opportunity for Cadets to learn more about how they can get involved with the Trust through volunteering, work placement and the Humber Youth Action Group. Friends and Family Test The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback. Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment. 94.94% of respondents thought they were involved in their care and listened to when accessing services at Humber Primary Care in September. "Dr X put me completely at ease as I was apprehensive about my appointment. [She] was human and relatable and didn't make me feel like just a number of many patients she had to get through that day." Governor Profile Can you tell us a bit about your background please and how this led to you becoming a Governor? I was born in West Hull in 1948, the year the NHS was founded, I have spent over 60 years at sea, from deep-sea fishing to the Merchant Navy and pilotage. Over this time, I’ve seen many changes within the NHS—some positive, others challenging—and observed some deteriorations in NHS services, GP practices, and patient care. These experiences led me to become an NHS Trust Governor.
