Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Coed Lleol/Small Woods e-newsletter!As spring turns into summer, we're feeling bright and fresh at Coed Lleol/Small Woods. As you may already be aware, the Enabling Natural Resources and Wellbeing scheme that underpins the majority of our programmes across Wales, finishes at the end of June 2023. We are working hard to secure future funding for our work across Wales. For more information about the situation, please see the 'Project updates' section below. Over the summer, we’ll be making improvements to some of the woodlands and nature sites we use. Y diweddaraf am gyllidEfallai y gwyddoch eisoes y bydd y cynllun Galluogi Adnoddau Naturiol a Llesiant, sy’n sail i’r rhan fwyaf o’n rhaglenni ledled Cymru, yn dod i ben ym mis Mehefin 2023. Er bod nifer o geisiadau newydd am arian yn yr arfaeth, hyd yn hyn nid ydym wedi llwyddo i gael gafael ar arian ar gyfer pob maes y tu hwnt i fis Mehefin 2023. Mae cyllid wedi’i gadarnhau y tu hwnt i fis Mehefin ar gyfer Castell-nedd Port Talbot ac Abertawe, a bydd rhai rhaglenni’n para tan ddiwedd mis Awst 2023 mewn mannau eraill. Rydym yn cyflwyno amryfal geisiadau i amrywiaeth o gyllidwyr bob wythnos. Rydym wedi mynd trwy gyfnod fel hwn o’r blaen ac rydym yn gwneud ein gorau i feddwl yn greadigol ac yn adeiladol ynglŷn â sut i ymdrin â’r heriau, er mwyn cefnogi’r gymuned anhygoel o weithgareddau llesiant awyr agored y cymerwch ran ynddi. Hefyd, byddwn yn rhoi cynnig ar rai syniadau newydd yn ymwneud â chostau a byddem yn croesawu adborth ar y rhain. Byddwn yn anelu at gynnal sesiynau agored trwy fis Gorffennaf a mis Awst er mwyn cadw mewn cysylltiad â phobl a sicrhau eu bod yn ymwybodol o raglenni cyllidio newydd wrth iddynt ddod i’r amlwg. Mae’r gweithgareddau anhygoel y cymerwch ran ynddynt a’r grwpiau a gefnogwch yn eithriadol o werthfawr, felly deallwn y gall ansicrwydd ein sefyllfa bresennol beri anesmwythyd i bawb. Byddwn yn siŵr o roi gwybod ichi am y cynnydd a wnawn. Os oes gennych bryderon neu ymholiadau, cofiwch gysylltu â Chydgysylltydd neu Swyddog Prosiect eich ardal. Os oes gennych syniadau ar gyfer cael gafael ar arian neu os gwyddoch am ddyngarwyr, cofiwch roi gwybod inni. Rydym hefyd yn ystyried sut y gellir paru cyllid o fewn rhanbarth arbennig er mwyn creu cynllun cynaliadwy ar gyfer safleoedd penodol. Os yw eich sefydliad yn dymuno gweithio gyda ni i fynd i’r afael â gweithgareddau mewn coetir neu sir benodol, cofiwch gysylltu. Yna, byddwn yn ystyried pwy arall a allai fod â diddordeb mewn cyfrannu at hyn. Rydym yn caru pobl, rydym yn caru coetiroedd, ac rydym yn gwneud popeth o fewn ein gallu i sicrhau y bydd y gwaith hwn yn ffynnu. Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi eich cefnogaeth a’ch dealltwriaeth yn ystod y cyfnod hwn. Funding updateYou may already be aware that the Enabling Natural Resources and Wellbeing scheme that underpins the majority of our programmes across Wales, finishes this June 2023. Whilst we have had, and continue to have many new funding bids in the pipeline, we’ve not yet been successful in securing future funding for all areas beyond June 2023. We have some confirmed funding beyond June already in place for NPT and Swansea, and we will have some programmes up until the end of August 2023 elsewhere. On a weekly basis, we are submitting multiple bids to a range of funders. We have been through these times before and we are doing our best to think creatively and constructively about how to address the challenges, to support the amazing community of outdoor wellbeing activities that you participate in. We will also be testing some new ideas around cost and would welcome feedback on those. We will aim to run open sessions through July and August to keep people connected and aware of any new funded programmes as they hopefully emerge. The wonderful activities you participate in and groups you support are hugely valuable, so we understand how the precariousness of where we currently stand can be unsettling for everyone. We’ll keep you informed of the progress we make. If you have any concerns or queries please reach out to your area Project Officer or Coordinator. If you have any ideas for funding or know any philanthropists, please do let us know. We are also looking at how funding within a given region can match together to create a sustainable plan for a specific site. Please do get in touch if your organisation would like to work with us on securing activity in a specific woodland or county and we will look at who else would be interested in contributing to this. We love people, we love woodlands, and we are doing everything we can to see this work flourish. Your support and understanding is appreciated through this time. Adeiladu ein ‘Bark-ive’Ar ôl cael ein hysbrydoli gan ein partneriaeth academaidd gyda phrosiect MEMBRA, rydym wedi lansio archif atgofion coed o’r enw Bark-ive! Fel rhan o ymgynghoriad 2023 ar wytnwch, rydym yn casglu hanesion a hoff atgofion pobl ynglŷn â choed yn ystod ein diwrnodau Llesiant mewn Natur a hefyd ar-lein. Mae mwy na 100 o ymatebion wedi dod i law hyd yn hyn, ac maent yn dal i gyrraedd! Dyma gipolwg ar rai ohonynt hyd yn hyn: “Roeddwn i’n ddigon lwcus i gael fy magu mewn gardd â thair o goed derw mawr. Treuliais fy mhlentyndod yn eu dringo. Roedd siglen ar un. Roedd gwreiddiau’r llall i’w gweld ar wyneb y tir ac arferwn ddychmygu bod tylwyth teg yn byw ynddyn nhw. Treuliais oriau’n chwarae yn y coed. Pan oeddwn yn hŷn, arferwn fynd â llyfr i’m hoff goeden ac eistedd yn ei changhennau. Daeth y coed â llawer o lawenydd a thawelwch imi. Pan rydw i’n meddwl am fy mhlentyndod, rydw i’n meddwl am y coed hynny. Symudais o’r tŷ 26 mlynedd yn ôl ac rydw i’n dal i allu gweld y coed yn fy meddwl a chofio sut roedden nhw’n gwneud imi deimlo.” “Roedd yna helygen wylofus yn yr ardd pan oeddwn i’n blentyn. Arferai fy nhad eistedd oddi tani gyda phot o de a phapur newydd. Ar ôl i’r canghennau dyfu at y llawr, torrodd siâp ‘picadili’ ynddyn nhw! Pan ddechreuodd y tŷ ymsuddo, roedd y cwmni yswiriant eisiau torri’r goeden i lawr. Ond gwrthod wnaeth fy nhad – felly fe wnaethon ni gadw’r goeden a dymchwel y tŷ!” “Y goeden afalau yng ngardd fy nhaid a’m nain. Bob blwyddyn, arferai fy nhad nôl yr ysgol a byddai fy nau frawd a minnau’n dringo i fyny’r goeden i gasglu’r afalau. Byddai’r goeden yn cael ei hysgwyd yn egr er mwyn rhyddhau’r afalau olaf ac yna byddai fy nain yn gwneud teisennau afal anhygoel!” Os oes gennych hoff atgof ynglŷn â choeden, ac os hoffech ei rannu gyda ni, byddem wrth ein bodd pe baech yn rhoi gwybod inni! Gallwch gyfrannu at y Bark-ive trwy gyfrwng ein hymgynghoriad ar-lein neu yn un o’n digwyddiadau a gynhelir ledled Cymru. Mae croeso ichi rannu dolen ein hymgynghoriad gyda phobl yng Nghymru – dewch inni weld a allwn ychwanegu at y Bark-ive! Building our Bark-iveInspired by our academic partnership with the MEMBRA project we have launched an archive of tree memories called the We're collecting peoples stories and treasured memories about trees as part of our 2023 consultation on resilience at our Wellbeing in Nature days and online. We have had over 100 responses so far, and they keep coming! Here's a snapshot of some of the submissions so far: “I was lucky enough to grow up in a garden with three large oak trees. I spent my childhood climbing in them. One had a swing, one had an exposed root system that I used to imagine fairies lived in. I spent hours playing in the trees. When I was older, I would take a book into my favourite tree and sit in its branches. The trees brought me a great deal of joy and peacefulness. When I think of my childhood, I think of those three trees. I moved away from that house 26 years ago and I can still remember how the trees looked and how they made me feel.” "I had a weeping willow in the garden when I grew up. My dad used to sit under it with a pot of tea and a newspaper. He even cut a 'fringe' in when it grew to the ground! When our house subsided, the insurance company wanted to cut the tree down - but my dad refused, so we kept the tree, and the house came down!" “The apple tree in my grandparents garden. Every year my dad would get the ladder out and myself and my two younger brothers would help climb up and collect the apples. The tree would get a good shake to get the last few off and my nan would then make the best apple pies!” If you have a treasured tree memory that you'd like to share, we would love to hear from you! You can submit to the Bark-ive via our online consultation or at one of our events across Wales. Please feel free to share our consultation link to people in Wales and let’s see if we can add to the Bark-ive! Yr helyg yn goron ar y diwrnodCymerodd staff Pencadlys Coed Lleol ran mewn digwyddiad cymunedol i ddathlu’r coroni gan ddefnyddio deunyddiau ar safle Canolfan Green Wood. Dangosodd Rebecca Vincent-Evans, Swyddog Prosiect, a Vicky Jones, Arweinydd Gweithgareddau, y grefft o blethu coronau helyg, a rhoddodd pobl o bob oed gynnig ar wneud eu rhai eu hunain. Roedd pawb wedi dotio at y coronau, a chan fod y gweithgaredd wedi bod mor boblogaidd bu’n rhaid i Rebecca redeg yn ôl i Ganolfan Greenwood i dorri ychwaneg o gwyros i’w plethu, a bu’n rhaid i Vicky bicio i nôl ychwaneg o rubanau! Dywedodd nifer o bobl eu bod yn gallu arogli’r helyg ffres ymhell cyn iddynt gerdded i mewn i’r ganolfan gymunedol. Drwodd a thro, bu’n ddiwrnod llawn hwyl i bawb! Diolch i Rebecca a Vicky am eu gwaith caled, ac i bawb a fynychodd y digwyddiad! Coronation in WillowStaff from Small Woods HQ participated in a community event celebrating the coronation, using materials from on site at the Green Wood Centre. Project Officer Rebecca Vincent-Evans and Activity Leader Vicky Jones demonstrated the art of weaving willow crowns, and people of all ages had a go at making their own. Everybody seemed to love the look, and the activity was such a hit that Rebecca had to run back to the Greenwood Centre to cut more dogwood for weaving, and Vicky had to pop out to get more ribbons! Most people commented on how they could smell the freshly cut willow way before they walked into the community centre. Overall, it was a really fun day for everyone! Thanks to Rebecca and Vicky for all of their hard work, and to everyone who came to the event! Uchod: Dwy eneth yn gwisgo coronau helyg a blethwyd ganddynt yn ystod digwyddiad y coroni. Prosiect Pobl Ifanc: Cynnyrch CoedlannauYn ddiweddar, cynhaliodd ein tîm yn Abertawe a Chastell-nedd Port Talbot, dan arweiniad Gemma Neaves, ein Swyddog Prosiect Plant a Phobl Ifanc, gwrs Cynnyrch Coedlannau dros gyfnod o 6 wythnos ar gyfer pobl ifanc 11 a 12 oed. Roedd y cwrs, a gynhaliwyd mewn partneriaeth â gweithiwr Prosiect Cynnydd yn Ysgol Bae Baglan ac Ysgol Gymunedol Llangatwg, yn gwrs achrededig Lefel 1 Agored Cymru. Er mor ifanc oedd y plant, llwyddodd pob un i basio’r cwrs – llongyfarchiadau enfawr i bawb ar ennill cymhwyster a sgiliau newydd! Young People's Project: Coppice ProductsOur team in Swansea and NPT, led by Gemma Neaves, our Children and Young People's Project Officer, recently held a 6 week Coppice Products course for young people, aged 11 and 12. The course, which was run in partnership with a Cynnydd Project worker in Ysgol Bae Baglan and Llangatwg Community School, was Agored Cymru Level 1 accredited. Despite their young ages, all of the participants passed the course - huge congratulations to everyone who took part on your qualification and the new skills you've learnt! Crefftwyr Geiriau’r GoedwigYn ddiweddar, gafaelodd grŵp o Abertawe yn eu pennau ysgrifennu er mwyn cymryd rhan mewn sesiwn cyfansoddi haicŵau yn y goedwig ar y thema ‘natur’. Ffurf ar farddoniaeth draddodiadol Japan yw’r haicw. Mae’r pennill yn cynnwys tair llinell sydd â 5, 7 a 5 sillaf. Diolch o galon i’r cyfranogwyr a rannodd eu barddoniaeth gyda ni: 'Flowering Hawthorn 'Sunlight through oak leaves 'Fronds of green green grass 'Fascinating fire Woodland WordsmithsThe group in Swansea picked up their pens for a session recently, composing nature-themed haikus in the woods. Many thanks to participants who shared their poetry with us: 'Flowering Hawthorn 'Sunlight through oak leaves 'Fronds of green green grass 'Fascinating fire Astudiaeth achos: Jamie yn Abertawe a Chastell-nedd Port TalbotMae astudiaeth achos newydd i’w gweld ar wefan Coed Lleol. Mae’n adrodd hanes Jamie, sy’n cymryd rhan ac yn gwirfoddoli gyda grŵp Llesiant Coetiroedd i Ieuenctid a Phobl Ifanc yn Abertawe a Chastell-nedd Port Talbot. Mynychodd Jamie sesiynau wythnosol gyda grŵp Ieuenctid Coed Lleol/Small Woods ar ôl cael diagnosis o Anhwylder Personoliaeth Ffiniol, a rhoddodd y sesiynau egni i Jamie i gario ’mlaen â gweithgareddau beunyddiol. Ar ôl gorffen y sesiynau grŵp, cynigiwyd i Jamie rôl Gwirfoddolwr Llesiant Coetiroedd ar gyfer yr un grŵp. Medd Jamie: “Fe ymunais oherwydd roddwn i’n teimlo ‘dyma’r lle sy’n fy ngwerthfawrogi fel unigolyn, ac rydw i’n teimlo y gallaf wneud rhywbeth go iawn a gwneud gwahaniaeth i fywydau pobl eraill fel maen nhw wedi’i wneud i mi’.” I ddarllen gweddill yr astudiaeth achos, edrychwch ar wefan Coed Lleol/Small Woods. Case study: Jamie in Swansea and Neath Port TalbotWe have a new case study up on the Small Woods website. It tells the story of Jamie, a participant and volunteer with the Woodland Wellbeing for Youth and Young People group in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. Jamie attended weekly sessions with the Coed Lleol/Small Woods Youth group after being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and the sessions gave her the energy to carry on with day-to-day activities. After finishing the group sessions, Jamie was offered the role of Woodland Wellbeing Volunteer for the same group she had attended. Jamie said: "I jumped on board because I felt like, ‘this is a place that appreciates me as an individual and I feel like I can genuinely do something and make a difference to somebody else’s life like they made a difference to mine’." To read the rest of Jamie's case study, visit the Coed Lleol/Small Woods website. Llun y misPhoto of the MonthUchod: Cafodd ‘llun y mis’ y tro hwn ei gyflwyno gan Heli Gittins, ein swyddog prosiect ar gyfer Conwy. Fe’i tynnwyd gan Siân Williams yn ystod diwrnod fforio a gynhaliwyd yn gynharach ym mis Mai. Medd Heli: “Mae’r fasged liwgar yn eiddo i Jules Cooper, un o’n harweinwyr gweithgareddau anhygoel, ac mae’n cynnwys pethau a gasglwyd ar gyfer salad. Mae’n cyfleu lliw a llawenydd y diwrnod a’n cydymdrechion ar gyfer hel yn ein boliau!” Above: This month's photo of the month was submitted by Heli Gittins, our project officer for Conwy, and it was taken by Sian WIlliams during one of their foraging days earlier in May. Heli says: "The colourful basket belongs to Jules Cooper, one of our wonderful activity leaders from her travels, and the contents are what we collected together for a foraged salad. It seems to capture the brightness of the day and our collective efforts for our tummies!" Send them to Hannah, our Online Programmes Officer at Ymyrraeth Gynnar mewn Seicosis: therapi anturMae Coed Lleol/Small Woods wedi bod yn gweithio gyda gwasanaethau Ymyrraeth Gynnar mewn Seicosis ledled Cymru er mwyn defnyddio antur fel ffordd o gynorthwyo pobl i adfer ar ôl seicosis. Mae Gwelliant Cymru wedi creu fideo YouTube gwych sy’n dangos y gwaith anhygoel a wneir gan Ymyrraeth Gynnar mewn Seicosis a sefydliadau partner, a’r effeithiau anhygoel a gaiff gwaith o’r fath. Mae rhaglen therapi antur genedlaethol Ymyrraeth Gynnar mewn Seicosis “yn annog pobl sy’n mynd trwy seicosis i gymryd rhan mewn mentrau sy’n seiliedig ar brofiad er mwyn gwella’u llesiant a’u hadferiad… Yn ôl adborth gan y bobl hyn, mae mynd i’r afael â’r her ochr yn ochr â phobl y gallant uniaethu â nhw wedi eu helpu i fagu hyder o’r newydd, mwynhau cymdeithasu a chymryd camau tuag at adfer.” Early Intervention in Psychosis: adventure therapyCoed Lleol/Small Woods have been working with Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services across Wales to use adventure as a way to aid recovery from psychosis. Improvement Cymru have produced a great YouTube video which showcases the great work of EIP and their partner organisations, and the amazing impacts this work is having. EIP's national adventure therapy programme "encourages people experiencing psychosis to participate in experience-based initiatives to improve their wellbeing and recovery... They’ve fed back that undertaking the challenge alongside people they can relate to has helped to rebuild their confidence, enjoy socialising, and take steps towards recovery." Sesiynau Gwell Iechyd rhad ac am ddim yn EryriDros yr haf, bydd Awdurdod Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri yn cynnal sesiynau gwell iechyd yn Eryri. Bydd y sesiynau’n cynnwys teithiau cerdded, ioga awyr agored ac ysgol goedwig. Gall unrhyw un gymryd rhan ynddynt, yn enwedig pobl sydd eisiau darganfod lleoedd newydd yn y Parc Cenedlaethol a gwella’u hymdeimlad o lesiant. Gellir cael rhagor o wybodaeth am y digwyddiadau ar wefan y Parc Cenedlaethol, a gaiff ei diweddaru bob mis. Free wellness sessions in SnowdoniaThe Snowdonia National Park Authority are organising free wellness sessions in Eryri (Snowdonia) over the summer. The sessions include walks, outdoor yoga and forest school, and are open to everyone, especially those who want to discover new places in the National Park and improve their sense of wellbeing. More information about the events can be found on the National Park website which will be updated monthly. Coedwigoedd Glaw Celtaidd y DyfodolPan feddyliwn ni am goedwigoedd glaw, yn aml rydym yn meddwl am jynglau De America a De-ddwyrain Asia. Ond oeddech chi’n gwybod bod gennym ein coedwigoedd glaw ein hunain yma yng Nghymru? Math o goedwig law dymherus hynod brin yw coedwigoedd glaw Celtaidd, ac fe’u nodweddir gan lawer o law a lleithder – rhywbeth sy’n annog mwsoglau a phlanhigion sy’n hoff o ddŵr i dyfu dan y canopi. Dim ond mewn ardaloedd sy’n agos at y môr y mae’r coedwigoedd hyn i’w cael. Mae gweithgareddau pobl – pethau fel ffermio, mwyngloddio a threfoli – wedi’u niweidio’n fawr. Ond mae yna obaith ar y gorwel! Mae Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol Cymru wedi sefydlu meithrinfa goed newydd yn Eryri er mwyn meithrin rhywogaethau coed sy’n elfennau pwysig o ecosystem coedwigoedd glaw Celtaidd. Gan ddefnyddio hadau a gasglwyd yn lleol, nod y feithrinfa yw tyfu gwahanol fathau o goed pwysig, yn cynnwys oestrwydd a phoplys duon – sef y goeden bren sydd yn y perygl mwyaf ym Mhrydain. Yn ôl David Smith, Parcmon Arweiniol: “Yn yr hirdymor, fe fydd hyn yn esgor ar lu o fanteision i’r dirwedd, ond hefyd bydd yn ein galluogi i fynd i’r afael â’r argyfwng hinsawdd a wynebwn trwy dyfu a phlannu coed a fydd yn sugno carbon am flynyddoedd lawer i ddod.” Celtic Rainforests of the FutureWhen we think of rainforests, our minds often jump to the jungles of South America and Southeast Asia, but did you know that we have our very own rainforests right here in Wales? Celtic rainforests are a very rare type of temperate rainforest that are characterised by their heavy rainfall and high humidity which lead to the growth of moss and moisture-loving plants beneath the canopy. These forests are only found in areas close to the sea, and have been massively negatively affected by human activities such as farming, mining and urbanisation. But there is hope on the horizon! National Trust Cymru has established a new tree nursery in Snowdonia to nurture many endangered tree species that are important components of the Celtic rainforest ecosystem. Using locally collected seeds, the nursery aims to grow a variety of important tree species, including hornbeam and black poplar, which is considered the most endangered timber tree in Britain. Lead ranger David Smith states, Gweithgaredd cyflym: Pric SiwrnaiMae pric siwrnai neu bric straeon yn ffordd ddifyr o gadw cofnod o’ch anturiaethau ym myd natur. Caiff y priciau hyn eu defnyddio fel teclyn adrodd straeon gan Americanwyr Brodorol a Phobl Frodorol Awstralia. Caiff eitemau y deuir o hyd iddynt eu rhoi’n sownd yn y priciau yn nhrefn amser, gan eich helpu i adrodd manylion eich siwrnai. Mae gwneud pric siwrnai yn ffordd dda o ganolbwyntio ar y presennol a chysylltu â natur pan fyddwch hwnt ac yma. Sut i wneud pric siwrnai:
Awgrym ardderchog: Ar gyfer plant neu rai sy’n cael trafferthion gyda medrusrwydd corfforol, beth am ddefnyddio stribyn o gardbord a thâp glynu dwyochrog. Fel arall, gallwch barhau i ddefnyddio pric, ond gallwch ddefnyddio bandiau elastig yn lle edafedd. A dyna ni! Cofiwch, does yna ddim ffordd iawn na ffordd anghywir o wneud pric siwrnai – bydd siwrnai pawb yn wahanol, a bydd eich pric siwrnai chi’n cofnodi’r profiad a gawsoch chi o’ch siwrnai. Os penderfynwch roi cynnig arni, mi fyddwn wrth ein boddau’n cael gweld eich creadigaethau! Anfonwch eich lluniau atom trwy’r e-bost at mollyrogers@smallwoods.org.uk. Quick activity: Journey SticksJourney sticks or story sticks are a fun way to keep a record of your adventures in nature. Used as a storytelling tool by both Native Americans and the Aboriginal people of Australia, found items are attached to the stick in chronological order, helping you to recount details about your journey. Making a journey stick can be a really nice way of being in the moment and connecting with nature when you’re out and about. How to make a journey stick:
Top tip: For children or those who struggle with manual dexterity, a strip of cardboard with a piece of double-sided tape stuck to it will work just as well. Alternatively, you could use a stick with elastic bands in place of the yarn. And that’s it! Remember, there’s no right way or wrong way to make a journey stick – everyone's journey is different, and your journey stick is an account of how you experienced your journey. If you have a go, we'd love to see what you create! Send us your photos via email to mollyrogers@smallwoods.org.uk. Beth i’w weld y mis hwn ym myd natur...🌳 Fflora: Yn ystod Mehefin a Gorffennaf, gellir gweld un o’n blodau gwyllt mwyaf anarferol yr olwg ar laswelltiroedd calch a chalchfaen – sef tegeirian y wenynen. Mae hanes esblygiad y tegeirian bach hwn yn anhygoel, ac yntau wedi cydesblygu ochr yn ochr â’r wenynen. Mae’r blodyn wedi datblygu mewn modd sy’n dynwared gwedd ac arogl gwenynen fenywaidd er mwyn denu gwenyn gwrywaidd sy’n chwilio am gymar, a’u twyllo i beillio’r blodyn. Ond yn y DU, mae’r blodau bendigedig hyn yn hunanbeillio gan nad yw’r wenynen a ddynwaredir ganddynt yn byw yma. 🐞 Ffawna: Os cadwch eich llygaid ar agor pan fyddwch yn troedio glaswelltiroedd neu goetiroedd agored y mis hwn, efallai y gwelwch gywion tylluanod yn mentro allan o’u nythod i gyfarch y byd. Er y bydd eu plu wedi tyfu i raddau helaeth, ni fydd y tylluanod ifanc wedi meistroli’r grefft o hedfan, felly yn aml gellir eu gweld yn eistedd ar ganghennau neu ar y ddaear yn agos at eu nythod. Mae tylluanod bach, a gyflwynwyd i’r DU yn y 1800au, yn nythu mewn tyllau, a byddant yn adeiladu eu nythod mewn amryfal leoedd – o dyllau mewn coed i hen dyllau cwningod, ac mewn tesi gwair hyd yn oed! 🍴 Chwilota: Mis Mehefin yw mis gorau’r flwyddyn i fforio am flodau ysgaw. Mae gan y blodau mân gwyn hyn flas ysgafn ac maent yn gynhwysyn poblogaidd ar gyfer diodydd ffrwythau, cynhyrchion wedi’u pobi a hyd yn oed ffriterau. Cynaeafwch eich blodau ysgaw ar ddiwrnod sych a chofiwch eu hysgwyd er mwyn cael gwared â bwystfilod bach. I gael awgrymiadau ynglŷn â chanfod a defnyddio blodau ysgaw, edrychwch ar wefan Coed Cadw. What to see this month in nature...🌳 Flora: One of our most unusual looking native wildflowers, the bee orchid can be seen in bloom on chalk and limestone grasslands in June and July. This small orchid has a fascinating evolutionary history, having coevolved alongside a species of bee; the flower has developed the appearance and scent of a female bee in order to attract males who are looking to mate, and trick them into pollinating it. However, in the UK these beautiful flowers are self-pollinated as the bee species that they mimic doesn’t reside here. 🐞 Fauna: If you keep your eyes peeled around grassland or open woodland this month, you might spot fledgeling little owls emerging from their nests to greet the world. Though they will have most of their adult feathers, the young owls will have yet to master flight, so can often be seen sitting on branches or on the ground close to their nests. Little owls, which were introduced to the UK in the 1800s, are cavity nesters, and will build their nests in a variety of places from tree holes to disused rabbit burrows and even in haystacks. 🍴 Forage: June is the best time of the year to forage for elderflower. With their delicate flavour, these tiny white flowers are a sought after ingredient for cordials, baked goods or even fritters. Harvest your elderflowers on a dry day and shake them to remove any unwanted beasties. For tips on identifying and using elderflowers, see the Woodland Trust website.
