Next step in GP transition agreed

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is transitioning GP services at Market Weighton Practice, King Street Medical Centre in Cottingham, and Humber Primary Care in Bridlington to new providers due to changes in the national primary care model. Patients do not need to take any action.

Heads of Terms have been completed with the intention of transferring the practices to the following providers. This means the Trust and others have agreed on how to negotiate and recorded their intentions before a formal contract is finalised:

•  Humber Primary Care to Drs Reddy and Nunn

•  King Street Medical Centre to Greengates Medical Group

•  Market Weighton Practice to The Ridings Medical Group

A formal letter will be sent to all patients explaining the transition, confirming the new provider, and detailing registration options.

Promoting breastfeeding throughout Hull with the voices of local children

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust’s Infant Feeding Team have partnered with Hull City Council’s Public Health and made a dramatic impact on increasing breastfeeding rates in Hull. They have now brought out a new resource to spread the positive messaging about breastfeeding and helping to normalise it in and around Hull.

Innovative and accessible new videos have now been launched and can be shared across the region to further promote breastfeeding. The voices of real school primary children from Hull have been transformed into animated shapes talking about the benefits and what can be done to support breastfeeding. Talking to children and young people is key to normalising this beneficial health practice, and their voices perfectly share the messages that can be delivered to both children and adults alike.

Medical Education Conference focuses on Children and Young People

This year’s Medical Education Conference focussed on Children and Adolescent mental health (CAMHS), bringing together delegates from across the country for a day of insight and innovation. The event drew an enthusiastic audience of doctors with attendees from across the UK, including Cumbria, Manchester, Birmingham, Portsmouth, East Anglia and London, to take part in this highly engaging and educational event.

We were delighted to welcome a range of guest speakers who delivered thought-provoking presentations throughout the day, sparking discussion and reflection among attendees. The programme also featured an inspiring Art Exhibition, made possible by the Trust’s Humber Youth Action Group, who kindly provided the canvases and creative direction for a display.

Governor Profile

A picture of Clinical Staff Governor Sian Johnson

What led you to become a governor?
I wanted to become a governor because I felt it was important for the voices of clinical staff like myself to be heard at the highest level. Working on the frontline, I see how decisions impact patient care and the team every day, and I wanted to play a part in shaping those decisions to make things better for everyone.

When did you become a governor?
I joined the Council of Governors earlier this year. I am excited about the chance to represent my colleagues and help strengthen the connection between staff and the Trust Board.

What experiences best prepared you for this role?
My clinical work, along with my involvement in improving services and working with both staff and patients, has really helped me understand what matters most. These experiences have shown me the realities of delivering care and the importance of good governance, which I bring to the meetings and discussions I’m part of.

What do you see as the most important responsibilities of a governor?
For me, it’s about making sure Non-Executive Directors are held to account and to represent the interests of both staff and the public. It’s also important to be actively involved in meetings, support membership engagement, and contribute to key decisions like appointing leaders and reviewing the Trust’s performance.

What do you enjoy most about being a governor?
I really enjoy having the opportunity to bring a frontline perspective into important discussions and knowing that I’m helping to shape positive changes. I also appreciate working alongside other governors who share a passion for improving the Trust and finding ways to better engage with our members and communities.

Bring a little festive joy to people in hospital this Christmas

As the Christmas season approaches, our Trust’s charity Health Stars are launching our annual Gift Appeal for patients receiving treatment and support in hospitals this year.

Each year, many patients have to spend Christmas in hospital, away from the comfort of family and friends, a simple gift can make a world of difference, offering comfort, joy and a reminder that they are not alone.

Our Trust runs mental health inpatient hospital wards in Hull and East Riding for adults and young people, as well as hospitals in Malton and Whitby.

Charity Manger Anita Green said: “Christmas is a time for giving, and we are committed to bringing a little joy to those spending the festive season in the Trust’s inpatient settings. Last year’s Christmas Gift Appeal was an incredible success, with generous donations helping to bring a little festive cheer to patients across the Trust.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many people which is why these thoughtful gestures can have a huge impact on a patient’s wellbeing.”

Money Worries and Health Survey

We know that money worries and cost of living can impact upon health, wellbeing and recovery, and can stop people from getting the care they need. We want to make sure the support we provide reflects the real needs and experiences of our patients, carers and community members.

Along with various engagement events, we are inviting patients, carers, and community members to complete this brief survey to:

  • Share your views and experiences of financial challenges linked to health and care.
  • Help us to identify practical solutions, that will make a difference for patients, carers and families.

Complete the survey.

Friends and Family Test

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback.

Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment.

86.11%

of respondents thought they were involved in their care and listened to within our Mental Health Liaison Service in October.

"Staff were nice and kept asking me if I was okay or if I needed anything while I was in the Humber Suite."
