President's Message

Stephanie Janeczko, CAWA, DVM, MS, DABVP (Shelter Medicine Practice, Canine & Feline Practice), President

Happy summer, friends!

I’ve always had a soft spot for summer… I can break out my flip flops, enjoy the longer days, and maybe sneak in a quick trip or two to beach. Plus fireflies never fail to make me smile!

But of all the reasons I love summer, the one at the top of my list is that it’s my season for connecting with family, friends, and colleagues. This year, I get to do that in a new way as Io step into the role of President this July 1st.

ABVP is an incredible group of veterinarians who go above and beyond: for your patients, for your clients, for your colleagues, and for the field. Whether you’ve been a Diplomate for decades or have just recently achieved your certification, thank you for all you do. Your efforts are seen and appreciated, and ABVP would not be the organization it is without your contributions.

It’s my honor to serve as President and I am committed to leaving ABVP better than I found – which is a tall order owing to the impressive leadership of those who’ve come before me! Many of you generously volunteer your time to support ABVP itself, including members of our Board of Directors, Regents, and committee chairs and members. Your volunteerism is truly the lifeblood of ABVP. If you haven’t yet put your hand up to volunteer, please get involved! It’s a great opportunity for continued professional development, forging connections with peers, and a chance to pay it forward for those who will follow us.

I hope these summer months bring you all time to connect with family and friends, to focus on what brings you joy, and an opportunity to relax.

Your July MOC Update

Sonnya Dennis, DVM, DABVP (Canine & Feline Practice), MOC Chair

MOC Tip from your Vice Chairs: Remember to put all of your CE in the Required CE Category before submitting them in the Additional Points Category. Once your applications for points have been approved, the system will alert you if you have already met your point requirement in non-RVS CE. At that point, you can put non-RVS CE in the Additional Points Category while still uploading RVS CE to the Required CE Category.

Tip from your MOC Chair: PLEASE check for duplicates BEFORE submitting your renewal form. It is killing me and slowing the approval process. Lots of love and best regards from your frazzled MOC Chair. :)

Diversity Equity Inclusion and Wellbeing (DEIW) Corner

Nik Weber, DVM, DABVP (Canine & FelinePractice, Avian Practice), DEI Chair

Know Your Rights - As veterinary professionals, we are committed not only to the health and welfare of animals but also to fostering safe, ethical, and legally compliant workplaces for all staff and clients. In today’s complex regulatory environment, it is more important than ever to understand how federal enforcement actions—particularly those involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—could potentially impact veterinary practices. To support our members and their teams, we are sharing this Zoom session scheduled for July 29th and hosted by the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association (MCVMA) and the Association of Asian Veterinary Medical Professionals (AAVMP). This session is designed to provide clear, factual guidance about what to do—and what not to do—should ICE agents enter your clinic, whether you’re a practice owner, associate, or staff member.

Social Media Assistance Needed

Jerry Rusch, DVM, DABVP (Beef Cattle), Outreach Chair

The Outreach Committee is looking for volunteer assistance with Social
Media posts for Facebook and Instagram. Our goal is to do 3 posts a week
focusing on the accomplishments of current ABVP Diplomates and other
pertinent releases related to ABVP and the veterinary profession. The goal
is to use a professional, yet lighthearted tone to help position ABVP as an
industry and thought leader while remaining approaching.

Please contact Jerry Rusch for further information.

State/Province CE Licensure Requirements

Mike Dutton, MS, DVM, DABVP, CE Chair

Update on last month's poll about mandatory CE topics for State Licensure. The poll had 12 respondents with most indicating there were not mandatory topics (e.g., opioids, record keeping) for their jurisdiction. As such, the CE committee will not develop CE for these topics.

Thank you for your input.
