Principal’s Update

Thank you for helping to make Mission Day a huge success.                    We raised a grand total of $1292.50. Well done everyone!

Kia ora Koutou

I hope you are all well-rested as we head into what will be a very busy final term leading up to the Christmas season.

This term we welcome back Mrs Sauni who has returned to Tuaki after a years maternity leave. Mrs Sauni will be working Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Duncan will continue to work in Tuaki on Thursday and Fridays.

Sunsmart

St Peter’s is accredited as a Sunsafe School by the New Zealand Cancer Society. Part of our commitment to the Sun Safe code of practice is to promote the wearing of hats during our summer school terms. Wide-brimmed school sun hats can be purchased from the school office for $12.50. As the weather warms up we encourage you to apply sunscreen to your child at home before they come to school.

Athletic Sports

Students have been busy practising for the upcoming school athletic sports. The Matau team will have their “Run, Jump, Throw’ event next Wednesday 23rd October at school and the Tangaroa team will travel to Hansen Park the following day Thursday 24th October for their athletic sports. Please refer to the PE and Sports section for further details.

Swimming

Swimming lessons begin on Tuesday 29th October. Please note that this is the first day back at school after labour weekend. Children will need to come to school with their swimming gear each day. Please pop this date on your calendar.

Visions and Values

I hope that you all had an opportunity to view the short video that was emailed out last term that shared our new school ‘Visions and Values’.  If you did not get a chance to view it, please click on the following link https://bit.ly/2oOf5uS

We begin this term focusing on Whakaute, showing respect. All classes will be looking at examples of whakaute in bible stories and thinking about how we show whakaute in our day to day lives.

End of Year

This term we will be working towards a whole school production, which will be performed for family and friends on Tuesday 10th December, 6pm.

We will be having our end of year liturgy and learning celebration on Monday 16th December and the following day, Tuesday 17th December is the final day of school. This year we plan to stay at school on the last day of term and are planning a special day full of activities. More details about these events will be given nearer the time.

Special Character

Next week all classes will begin the

COMMUNION OF SAINTS strand -  TE KOTAHITANGA O TE HUNGA TAPU

Here is a summary of the theological focus for this study:

•        Means unity of members of the Church – those living and in heaven

•        Saints include all those who are with God in heaven – not just those                canonized

•        Includes those who are undergoing purification before entering                        fullness of life with God.

•        Vast network of those engaged in prayer -The living may pray to the                 saints for their intercession.

•        Chief among saints is Mary. All the beliefs and feasts for Mary are                      related to events in her life, and to her relationship with Jesus.

•        Saints and inspiring people serve as models – revealing exceptional                 devotion to the will of God

•        Life is a gift of a gracious Creator and each human being is made in                    the image and  likeness of God.

•        Human life has a Tapu (sanctity).

•        For Christians, death is not the end – rather now life with God.

•        Heaven – fullness of new life in communion with God

•        Purgatory – those not ready for this are being purified

•        Hell – those who freely choose to cut themselves off from God

October is the month devoted to the Holy Rosary. This is the perfect time for us to reflect upon the meaning of the Rosary and its significance in our walk of faith. Take time with your loved ones to perhaps recite a decade of Hail Mary’s together.

Christmas child shoeboxes

The brochure from Samaritans purse was sent home with the eldest child at the end of term 3. This contains all the instructions of how to create and make a Christmas shoebox gift for a child in need.

If you have made up a shoe box (include the postage donation of $10) please bring it into the office by Friday 25 October.

Collection from our school will take place on Tuesday  29th October. Once the collection has been picked up you will need to deliver the box to the address on the brochure personally.

School Student Accounts

As this is term 4 we would appreciate all the school accounts to be settled by the end of November.  The school has a financial year of January to December, so in December we are very busy preparing the accounts for the auditors.  I will email accounts out again in week 3 or 4. If you have a balance that requires payment we would be grateful if this could be settled promptly.  If you would like to discuss your students account , please either make a time to see me in the office, or email me - office@saintpeters.school.nz  or book an appointment with Mrs Kitto.

We thank you for your assistance in these matters.

Board of Trustees Update

Welcome back to Term 4, we hope you had a lovely, relaxing holiday break.

We are excited to let you know that last term the board agreed to purchase 40 new iPads and docking stations. We look forward to seeing how you put the new technology to use.
In addition to the iPads, it was also agree that we would purchase a set of ‘Spheros’ for use at school. If, like most of the board members, you are not familiar with Spheros, check this out to learn more:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yQYr7CIxBc

The board would like to acknowledge the PTA for all of their efforts this year so far. We know that the PTA works very hard to provide fantastic experiences for our students and for our community as a whole, you are very much appreciated by us all.  We encourage you to get behind your PTA and support them wherever possible.

We wish all students well for the Matau Run, Jump, Throw and the Tangaroa Athletics day next week.

PTA Update

Kia ora Whanau,

St Peter’s Family Christmas Tea Towel Fundraiser

This year the PTA, along with your budding artists and teachers have worked together to create a tea-towel you'll love!! This is our last fundraiser for the year and we need to know numbers to order, payment is not required yet.

You’ll need to buy more than one!!

Frame one and pop it up at Christmas

Buy one for each child as a keepsake to give to them at a later  date

         Use one in your kitchen

Use one to take hot food to social gatherings

Buy as Christmas presents for relatives and family friends, teachers,                  tutors, the perfect gift to post

Why we chose tea-towels as a fundraiser:

Not a sugary treat food  -   No plastic waste-     Uses natural fibres

A gift that has meaning and will be appreciated in years to come, won’t end up in landfill quickly.

We have two Christmas- inspired tea towels. One created by students in Matau, one by Tangaroa students

The tea towel has a Christmas drawing by every child in each team with their name underneath it, a perfect memento of who they went to school with.  The tea towel will have our school emblem and the date.  It will have a pohutakawa border and the whole tea-towel will be printed in deep red – the perfect Christmas combination!!

We will not be doing a tea-towel fundraiser in the near future so don’t wait for next year as there will not be any.

Pricing

$15 for one tea towel

$24 for two tea towels

$30 for three tea towels

($10 per tea towel for orders over three)

Please email pta@saintpeters.school.nz and tell us how many Matau (Inaka, Tuaki, Tuna & Hoka) and how many Tangaroa tea towels you would like to order. Payment into the St Peters PTA account (NOT THE SCHOOL OFFICE) will be required when the tea towels arrive. Please write your full name and child’s name in the email so we can keep track of family orders.

Thank you so much for the orders of the tickets and offers of help for the Lego fundraiser THIS Friday. It's not too late to offer to help or to buy tickets. You can still buy tickets on the day but it would really help us for catering purposes if you preorder your tickets. pta@saintpeters.school.nz

There will be a sausage sizzle, soup and various snacks to purchase as well as pre-loved toys and books.

Please drop off donations of toys/games/books by tomorrow afternoon, outside the library.

We can't wait to see you all on Friday. Remember proceeds are going towards a sandpit for the children (thank you to those parents that can't make it but have given a donation or have donated tickets to use as prizes).
