SH10 Kāeo Bridge upgrade |
28 September 2023 |
Kia ora koutou, Winter has been a busy time at Kāeo Bridge and we are now heading into Spring with an almost fully-formed bridge. |
Bridge construction updateMost of the concrete deck has been poured, with a fourth span (section) to be completed next. Each span is 30m long and takes a total volume of 76m3 of concrete. Work is also continuing on the two abutments, these are structures that connect the deck of the bridge to the ground. Other remaining work includes installing guardrails and applying an asphalt layer to the deck, on top of the concrete pour. |
Change of road layoutThe layout of the road south of the bridge changed on Monday 25th September. The old temporary road has become our construction area. Traffic now travels through what was our work zone, making a straight line to the existing Kāeo Bridge. Please take care when driving through the site and allow some time for motorists to adjust to the change. |
A render of the finished Kāeo bridge Pavement and roundabout worksFor the remainder of 2023 our focus will be on building the roundabout (Kāeo side of the bridge) and the new roads that approach the intersection. This includes lengthening Whangaroa Road to meet the roundabout. Pavement construction will happen in stages, with various layers of material and metal applied to build up a strong road. Each layer is tested before the next can be applied. The final stage is chip sealing or asphalt application, followed by line marking and installing guardrails and lighting. |
