CHARTER WALK CHAMPIONS NEURODIVERSITY WITH 'ROLLING TOGETHER' COMMUNITY ART INSTALLATION
Charter Walk Shopping Centre has reinforced its commitment to being a sensory-aware destination with the launch of The Circle Project : Rolling Together, a large-scale community art installation. Unveiled on Friday 27th March, the project arrived at the start of World Autism Acceptance Week (30th March – 5th April 2026), positioning Charter Walk at the forefront of inclusive retail in East Lancashire. Rolling Together is designed to celebrate neurodiversity, sustainability and connection. The installation features a vibrant collection of reused bicycle wheels, decorated by local families and partners including Team Rise, suspended beneath a canopy of umbrellas. Each umbrella carries tags with words shared by the community about belonging and identity, inviting shoppers to play, pause, or simply move through the space at their own pace. Already a leader in Sensory-Aware Shopping, the launch of Rolling Together adds to Charter Walk’s permanent suite of accessibility features, designed to support neurodivergent visitors and those with sensory processing needs including:

There's some incredible fundraising taking place at the RSPCA East Lancashire shop on St James’s Street, led by manager Sam and her three-legged companion, Pickle. Having managed the shop for the past six years, Sam has seen first-hand the impact the centre has on local animals in need - and Pickle herself is a perfect example of the life-changing work made possible through their efforts. Right now, the East Lancashire RSPCA centre is under threat of closure and the Burnley shop - the only one in the region - is playing a crucial role in raising funds through its ‘Save Our Centre’ appeal. Thanks to strong local support, over £50,000 has already been raised, but further funding is urgently needed to secure the centre’s future beyond June. Businesses can play a key role here, whether through corporate sponsorship, fundraising initiatives, or simply helping to spread the word. Every contribution - big or small - will help ensure this vital service can continue supporting animals across our community. LIFE-SAVING DEFIBRILLATOR INSTALLED AT BURNLEY'S PIONEER PLACE
A new publicly accessible defibrillator has been installed at Pioneer Place in Burnley as part of a wider rollout of ten devices helping to strengthen emergency response across the borough. Accessible 24/7, the new defibrillator forms part of a growing network of life-saving equipment designed to ensure that anyone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest can receive rapid assistance when every second counts. The new device at Pioneer Place is registered on The Circuit - the national defibrillator network, which connects defibrillators directly to NHS ambulance services across the UK. Across the North West, over 11,000 defibrillators are now connected to The Circuit, helping to improve outcomes for local communities. The installation reflects ongoing collaborative efforts across Burnley to create a safer, more resilient town centre for businesses, residents and visitors.
