Hopefully this finds everyone having had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to the new year. Our credentials team is working hard on a new slate of potential Diplomates and the Symposium committee is putting the final touches on our meeting in Baltimore. Our volunteers do amazing work and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their efforts. It’s nothing short of amazing the time and effort that everyone puts forth to help keep AVBP running. There is always an opportunity to help in a variety of different ways, ranging from running for a position or helping out on a committee. So if you have been thinking this is the year you might like to volunteer, reach out to your Regent or myself and we can walk you though the process. Now Accepting NominationsHappy New Year to all. It is that time of the year for ABVP to take nominations for various Committee, Regent, and Board of Director positions. These are the positions that will be open for voting in a couple of months.

Call for Abstracts & Grant ProposalsThe ABVP Foundation offers grants up to $10,000 USD supporting clinical research projects involving animals conducted by veterinarians. One grant will be awarded in 2023. We encourage submission of all types of proposals concerning animal health and disease. However, research projects of an applied nature that will rapidly solve problems seem in clinical practice are preferred. The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) Foundation is organizing a Poster Session during the 2023 ABVP Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland (April 20 – 23, 2023). Our goal is to create an opportunity to showcase what the ABVP membership does. Hence, we invite diplomates, residents, veterinary students (under mentorship), practitioners, academicians, and researchers to submit abstracts of novel practical studies and case reports related to one of the eleven recognized veterinary specialties within ABVP (Avian, Beef Cattle, Canine and Feline, Dairy, Equine, Exotic Companion Mammal, Feline, Food Animal, Reptile and Amphibian, Shelter Medicine or Swine Health Management). We are looking for both research and case report presentations in poster format. A dedicated session will be scheduled in the Symposium program and presenters will be required to stand by their posters to interact with the audience. The presenting author must be registered in the Symposium. Outreach UpdateThe Outreach Committee is working on increasing our student attendance at the annual symposium! Students have been encouraged to apply for the French Fellowship, and three new pilot vet school student chapters of the ABVP are in process. We would also like to encourage Diplomates to sponsor students to attend the ABVP Symposium in Baltimore! This can be by covering the cost of their registration, helping with travel, or helping with accommodations! We want to support you to help support them! As a thank you, the Outreach Committee will be covering the expenses for a student-sponsor lunch during the convention. Please reach out to outreach@abvp.com if you will be sponsoring a student for details. Please be aware that there is a new Vice-Chair of Mentorship within the Outreach Committee. Amy Thorud will be taking over for Ed Loebach and can be reached at mentorship@abvp.com for anyone looking for a mentor. Please direct any of your colleagues to that email address as they begin the Diplomate process and are looking for a mentor. We thank Ed for all his effort and hard work running the program for the past 6 years!
