Saturday 27 September to Friday 3 October

26 September 2025

Kia ora,

Welcome to this week’s issue of the Hawke’s Bay state highway planned roadworks update.

This weekly newsletter provides you with information about what’s happening across the region’s state highway network – from the summer road renewals to key recovery work – so you can plan ahead.

Before you travel these school holidays, check Journey Planner for the latest information.

Dates in this update may change at short notice due to weather or other unforeseen factors.

If a state highway is not included in this update, there are no major or disruptive works planned for that corridor.

Ngā mihi nui,

The NZTA Hawke’s Bay team

Map of Hawke's Bay in the Forward Works Programme

What to expect on our state highways this summer

In total we're planning to renew over 85 lane kilometres of state highways in Hawke’s Bay this summer season (October 2025 to April 2026).

We’ve released an interactive map that shows where on the state highways we're planning to rebuild or reseal over this summer, and the next two years:

NZTA Forward Works Programme.

This road renewals work takes place alongside our other work in the region, such as the Hawke’s Bay Expressway Roads of National Significance project and ongoing recovery works.

How to use the map: The data can be filtered by financial year, network area and treatment at the top right of the dashboard. Click "Select Financial Year" and/or "Select Network" and/or "Select Treatment" to see all drop down options.

New guardrail over Mangamate Stream Bridge on State Highway 50

Progress report: Guardrail repair complete on SH50, resealing next up

Last week, our team completed the guardrail repair on the Mangamate Stream Bridge on State Highway 50. The work was delivered through our structures management contract, which covers the maintenance of bridges and other structures like retaining walls across the state highway network.

You might notice the road surface looks a little rough in the photo, that’s because this section of SH50 is programmed for resealing later this season. Over summer, our crews will be working across the region's state highway, not just on road surface renewals, but also on bridges, retaining walls and other important structures that help keep our road safe and reliable.
