The EWA Annual Election will be held on Friday 4 November 2022, closing at 11.59pm.

Voting is CLOSING TOMORROW via the MyEA link.

EWA called for nominations for positions on the EWA Board of Directors and Sport committees that were vacant at the end of 2022.

This is the second year that the elections will be held under the new Committee By-Laws and is a great opportunity for individuals to have an opportunity to ‘put back’ into our sport.

Whilst there are only a few positions on the various committees being open to election, all Committees also have some opportunities for appointing committee members, so those who are nominated and may not be successful in the election may be offered an appointed position – again these are not ‘closed shop’ positions – they are genuine positions to ensure there is a good balance of skills and representation on the committees.

Nominations for appointed committee members will be called for following the elections.

We have a strong sport that is once again growing, please consider helping us to make the sport successful into the future.

Positions open for election are:

EWA Board (1) position available with one nomination received.
The following candidate has been successful;
Alexandra Daniels

Dressage WA Committee two (2) positions available with one nomination received.

PUBLIC COMMENT INVITED ON MEASURES TO ENHANCE HORSE WELFARE

Horse owners and carers are encouraged to have their say on proposed new standards to support the wellbeing of horses in Western Australia.

The State Government has released the draft Standards and Guidelines for the Health and Welfare of Horses in Western Australia for public comment.

The document sets out the minimum standards for owners and people in charge of horses to follow to ensure the health and welfare of horses in their care.

It also provides guidelines and additional information to further promote positive animal welfare outcomes.

The document encompasses:

  • general care, including health and management;
  • the conditions under which horses are kept and handled;
  • events; and
  • natural disasters.

Separately, national standards and guidelines are being reviewed which cover the transportation of horses.

The WA Government is leading the nation by developing comprehensive standards and guidelines for all horses, which will potentially provide a model for new national standards.

There were renewed calls for standards to be developed in 2019, following a report into the treatment of retired racehorses.

To view the proposed horse standards and guidelines in WA and to provide feedback, visit the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's engagement website at https://yoursay.dpird.wa.gov.au/wa-horse-standards-and-guidelines

The consultation period closes Monday 19 December.

THANK YOU FOR A BIG 2022 AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO 2023

The Show Horse Committee would like to thank all EWA Members for competing at EWA and affiliated club events throughout 2022. We hope you had a successful season.

We are pleased and proud that the Eastern States judges who come to our shows are very complimentary of our horses and riders and the way our shows are conducted.

As well as focussing on our team to represent Western Australia at the Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships, (“The Nationals”) we are also turning our attention to the Show Horse Awards function where we will award the Leaderboard winners andfive lucky winners of the EWA Members Triple Cash Bonanza.

To be eligible for the fantastic Triple Cash Bonanza you must have competed, either as the owner of a horse/pony or rider, at all three of the EWA Show Horse events in 2022. The three qualifying events are the Autumn Pageant, Winter Gala and the EWA and Endeavon Products Horse and Rider of the Year.  The Newcomer classes are not a qualifying event.

Based on our assessment of entries via Nominate, we have identified the EWA Members who are eligible. If you competed at all three events, and your name is not on this list please contact Val Mayger at vmayger@bigpond.net.au or on 0417 991 364 by 31 December 2022.

You would need to be able to prove that you own a horse that competed at all three events or that you rode (or participated in Lead Rein) at all three events.  Entering a horse but scratching before the show or on the day does not count. CLICK HERE to find out if you are eligible.

The Show Horse Awards function will likely be held in late January 2023.  We will advise of the date and venue in due course. There may be a small cost to cover any hire and light refreshment expenses.

The winners of the $500 first prize and four prizes of $125 in the Triple Cash Bonanza will be made by a random draw at the Show Horse Awards function.

We look forward to celebrating the end of the show season with all our show horse competitors in a casual relaxed setting.

AN EVENING WITH RAMON GUERRERO

Is not often that we have a Master in Haute Ecole (High School) movements teaching us piaffe and passage in hand and under saddle.

Ramon is known as the “Systematic Horseman” for his ability to design exercises to improve any part of the horses body without resistance.

Ramon began his career working with horses as an apprentice with the Royal School of Equestrian Art in Spain where he learnt from the Masters.

He has since been awarded the accolade of induction into the Royal School as a “Pioneer of the Royal School” in recognition of his achievements as a trainer,rider and performer in both high school movements and in classical working equitation.

In the latest book Approaching Perfection written by Ramon , Rafael Soto (Spanish Olympic Medallist) writes “Good horsemanship always respects the natural balance and improves it progressively”.

This has always been Ramon’s philosophy and hence he returns to Spain yearly to keep in touch with what is happening in the competition scene and training.

To quote from his book “my number one goal has been to turn the horse into a more positive,happier, more confident and enjoyable animal”.

The aim of this master class is not to show a perfect piaffe but is designed to show how the correct basics ,starting with the work in hand ,leads to the development of collection including half steps and piaffe.

Date: Wednesday 9 November 2022 - 6:30pm

Venue: Brookleigh Indoor Arena

Cost: $25 per head includes percolated coffee (compliments of Bio-Bean coffee) and cakes.
