February 2026 PTCMA Update
21 February is Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day Every year on February 21, we celebrate Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day, a day dedicated to promoting the importance of making healthy choices. In a world filled with fast food and sedentary lifestyles, it’s crucial to understand how our daily habits impact our overall health and well-being.
Effective 1 March 2026, we will implement a yearly subscription for our Virtual CPD Programmes, which have previously been offered at no cost to practicing clinicians.
This change allows us to continue delivering exceptional quality and expand the value we provide to you.
The subscription will be open to all practicing healthcare professionals, inviting nurses, pharmacists and other allied healthcare practitioners.
Information to subscribe will be shared the last week of February.

IRT101
Intervention Research and Clinical Trials
Moderated by Prof Danie van Zyl Head of the Department of Internal Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria
Intervention research is research undertaken to develop new or improved healthcare interventions and to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmacologic interventions. This is considered to be the most reliable evidence in healthcare research. In a clinical trial setting, the researcher aims to explore whether a medical strategy, a treatment or a device is safe and effective for humans. Clinical trials produce the best data available for healthcare decision making by utilising stringent scientific standards and protocols in the design and development of intervention research.

HEC101
Health Economic and HTA Research
Moderated by Prof Edina Sinanovic Professor & Head of Health Economics Division at the University of Cape Town
Health economics, which is one of the important components of HTA, covers a wide spectrum of activities related to the cost-effectiveness, affordability and access to medicines. The tools used in health economics may differ depending on the perspective and setting.
This module takes a micro-level view of the health economics of a specific healthcare intervention rather than that of a healthcare programme.
However, it incorporates all the fundamental principles of health economics so that you will be able to use these in many different settings.
