Click here Five cotton growers from across New South Wales and Queensland have been named finalists for the 2026 Bayer Cotton Grower of the Year and the AgriRisk High Achiever of the Year awards, to be announced at the Australian Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast in August. From large-scale operations to family-run farms, this year’s finalists highlight the strength, adaptability and forward-thinking approach of Australia’s cotton industry. Following Cotton Australia’s submission to the Queensland Parliament’s Primary Industries and Resources Committee, the Committee has released its report on the Regional Planning Interest (Condamine Alluvium) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026, recommending that key protections under the Regional Planning Interest Act be restored. Cotton Australia will host a webinar on Wednesday 20 May covering hot topics in industrial relations, including upcoming changes to same day super requirements and Fair Work determinations. Cotton Australia’s Chair Liz Stott and CEO Adam Kay met with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Managing Director Hugh Marks and Editorial Director Gavin Fang this week to discuss the recent findings by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) against the ABC’s Four Corners program. The meeting followed ACMA’s determination that the “Water Grab” episode failed to meet standards of accuracy and impartiality. Cotton Australia has lodged a submission to the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s Menindee Lakes Review and is finalising one for the NSW Government’s Northern Basin Connectivity Review. The Menindee submission calls for a clear purpose for the Lakes, fair compensation for any impacts on water entitlements, infrastructure upgrades, action on carp and native fish passage, fair cost sharing, and improved trigger settings for Northern Basin restrictions. Teachers in Gunnedah are the latest to learn more about cotton production during Cotton Australia’s popular Teach the Teacher program which is currently being rolled out across cotton-growing communities in New South Wales and Queensland’s Darling Downs region. Four more events are due to be held over the next few weeks – in Moree, Chinchilla/Dalby, Warren and Cecil Plains – providing local teachers with the opportunity to visit a cotton farm and gin and engage directly with growers and industry professionals.
