Celebrating Our 2025 Vanier Scholarship Winners!Philippe Boucher, Kate Ellis and Simon Kuttner are doctoral students at Carleton University who have won a prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. Named after Major-General Georges P. Vanier—the first francophone Governor General of Canada—the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship is awarded to doctoral students who demonstrate academic excellence and research potential. The scholarship is valued at $50,000 per year for three years during a student’s doctoral studies. A list of the PhD students across Canada who received this scholarship for 2025 can be found here. “Congratulations to our own Carleton doctoral recipients of a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and to all the graduate students across Canada who are part of this select group,” says Nadeem Siddiqi, Vice-Provost of Graduate Studies at Carleton. “As Philippe, Kate, and Simon receive one of Canada’s highest academic honours, it is a recognition and reinforcement of the innovative research happening at

MacOdrum Library Supports for Grad StudentsThe Library offers numerous supports for graduate students at any point of their research journey. If you are looking to access help at any time, here is a general rundown of some of the spaces you can reach out to for support from us. There are a limited number of study spaces dedicated to Graduate Students located on the fifth floor, rooms 509, 510, and 537. These spaces are for single, silent study and are available on a first come first serve basis. In-Person Research Help:

The annual doctoral scholarship has launched. This competition aims to highlight excellence in the humanities and social sciences and is intended for students who are in their first or second year of their doctoral studies at the time of application. The deadline to apply is Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. ET. It is important to note that candidates in their final year of a master's program are no longer eligible for the 2026 scholarship competition. All full-time graduate students at Carleton are automatically enrolled in the GreenShield Student Health & Dental Plan through the Graduate Students' Association (GSA). The plan provides comprehensive coverage to support your health and well-being during your studies. Check out the GSA Student Services page here for more detailed information about the plan. Part-time students are not automatically covered, but may elect to join the plan. Part-time
co-op students are subject to the same rules as part-time students. If your part-time co-op is in the Fall Term, you will need to opt-in to the health plan within the applicable opt-in period while you are eligible. The opt-in and opt out period is firmly set at Oct. 10. No exceptions can be made after this deadline. All Priority Teaching Assistants (TA) can update their TA Profile immediately after accepting their TA award through the TA Management System in Carleton Central. As these profiles are used to determine appropriate
and relevant assignments, it is not only important to fill in your profile but also important to keep your information updated. As long as you are an active TA, you can easily update your profile through Carleton Central. *Please note that you must be a registered full-time student to be a TA.

Carleton's Reuse and Recycling HubThe Reuse and Recycling Hub provides a convenient, central space for the Carleton community to responsibly dispose of and divert various common items from the landfill. The Hub currently accepts the following items: - Printer cartridges: All desktop printer cartridges can be dropped off for recycling, reducing plastic waste and promoting materials
recovery.
- Textbooks: Gently used textbooks published within the last 15 years are accepted for potential reuse or redistribution.
- Batteries: A wide range of household batteries can be deposited. For a full list of accepted types see the Sustainability Carleton website.
- Markers and pens: All spent markers, pens, and similar writing instruments can be recycled—an easy way to reduce plastic and ink waste.
- Small electronic waste
(e-waste): A variety of small electronic items are accepted for safe disposal and recycling. For a full list of accepted personal e-waste see the Sustainability Carleton website.
Stop by the Hub on the first floor of Nideyinàn and do your part to support Carleton’s sustainability goals.
