IndigiScapes News

Welcome Steve to IndigiScapes Cafe

We're thrilled to introduce Chef Steve Farkas, a seasoned culinary artist whose arrival promises to elevate the dining experience at IndigiScapes Cafe.

A Budapest pastry competition win (at the tender age of 14) led Steve to an apprenticeship near Venice which ignited his lasting passion for fresh ingredients.

With a 26-year journey across seven countries, his resume includes roles from Director of Food and Beverage at Accor Australia to head chef at Los Roques Fine Dining in Spain.

Yet, it's his passion for the Australian bushland and local area that set him apart.

He has been inspired by the many edible native plants at IndigiScapes and they are guiding his ingredient choices. Steve is excited to blend his culinary wisdom with flavours like wattle-seed, rainforest plum, lilly-pilly, and bunya nuts.

A new highlight in the café is Steve's wattle seed-infused and rainforest jam-filled bush-brioche. It's quickly become a requested favourite!

Your favourite dishes are still on the menu, but prepare for some delicious changes when you next visit. The menu now boasts new delights including the finger lime cheesecake, rosella cheesecake and wattle-strawberry salad.

Check our spring menu before you join us at IndigiScapes.

Navigating magpie swooping season

Magpies are known for their helicopter parenting tendencies, displaying overly protective behaviour while raising their young. This is especially pronounced during the breeding season, spanning July to December, often resulting in swooping behaviour.

To alleviate stress for these overprotective bird parents and yourself, we recommend you avoid nesting sites by exploring alternative routes to work or school.

If avoiding the swoop zone (within 150 meters of the nest) is not possible, consider donning magpie-inspired attire to stay safe.

Here's some helpful tips:

  • Wear a hat, sunglasses, or carry an umbrella
  • Decorate your bike and helmet creatively
  • Walk instead of running
  • Dismount from your bike
  • Walk in groups to deter potential swooping

These tactics are effective against other swooping species like butcher birds and plovers.

Magpies have excellent memories. To help them feel safe, refrain from retaliating or approaching magpie chicks.

Wattle seed bush-brioche

You'll love this soft, rich and buttery brioche with a sprinkle of wattle seed on the top.

The rainforest jam filling offers a burst of natural sweetness that perfectly balances the brioche's light and fluffy texture.

Try it when you next visit.
