That’s because the fingerprints are harder to detect in people who already have mild cognitive impairment. A new collaboration points to the future of data In collaboration with EPFL, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is officially expanding its own focus areas and establishing a new research division: Scientific Computing, Theory, and Data. Here researchers will increasingly focus on the development of new computer and data technology and its use in science. A 3D printer made entirely at EPFL Six months ago, EPFL professors Christophe Moser and Jürgen Brugger were in the market for a printer. But all the options were either too expensive or not up to standard. So they decided to build their own: an ultra-thin filament printer capable of printing in two and three dimensions. EPFL now has its own Hyperloop test track Engineers at EPFL’s DESL lab, working in association with EPFL spin-off Swisspod, have built a Hyperloop test track on the Lausanne campus. They will use the loop – a large vacuum tube for ultra-high-speed travel – to test a linear induction motor. The research is being funded by an Innosuisse grant. Why do scientific discovery take so long to reach the general public? For scientists, the path from bright idea to finished product is a long one. Prototypes must go through an extensive testing and approval process before they are ready for the market. Let’s have a look. Ali H. Sayed receives the prestigious 2022 IEEE Fourier Award Professor and Dean of the School of Engineering Ali H. Sayed, has been awarded the 2022 IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing “for contributions to the theory and practice of adaptive signal processing”. IEEE Flanagan Award given for the first time to an EPFL researcher Hervé Bourlard, Professor at the School of Engineering and Director of the Idiap Research Institute, has been awarded the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing 2022 Prize.
