State Highway 29SH29 Hamilton to Tauranga: Due to the number of worksites on SH29 between lower Kaimai Range and Tauriko, please allow up to 20 minutes extra time for travel. Work starting next week SH29 Ōmanawa Bridge: Construction activity begins next week close to the Hamilton-bound edge of SH29 between Ōmanawa Bridge and the Ōmanawa Road intersection. For this work to be done safely the Hamilton-bound shoulder (from the bridge to west of the intersection) and the left-turn slip lane into Ōmanawa Road will be closed from the week beginning Monday 9 February. A temporary speed restriction of 50km/h will be introduced through this area. A lane shift will be implemented later in February, moving traffic further away from the closed shoulder area. SH29 near Old Kaimai Road: Road resurfacing will begin on Monday 2 February for 3 nights between 7pm and 5am on SH29 near Old Kaimai Road. There will be a 3 way stop/go in place with a reduced speed limit. Work starting soon
SH29 Kaimai Range closures: SH29 Kaimai Range will close for 5 nights, from Sunday 22 February to Thursday 26 February, between 8pm and 3.30am each night (reopening early Friday morning). SH29 Tauriko: From Monday 9 February, the slip lane from SH29 onto Takitimu Drive Toll Road (at the SH29/SH36 roundabout) will be closed to traffic daily during off-peak hours, 9.30am to 3.30pm while work is carried out on the nearby wetland. This is expected to take 6 weeks. Traffic can continue to access Takitimu Drive Toll Road via the roundabout. Work to remove streetlights on SH29 just west of the SH29/SH36 roundabout will take place from Monday 9 February for 3 days within the slip lane closure. SH29 Tauriko, Cambridge Road to Tauriko Village: Construction continues along the northern side of SH29 in Tauriko Village, including stormwater upgrade works at the intersection of SH29 and Te Ara Hoia Drive. A lane shift is currently in place on Te Ara Hoia Drive to accommodate extended safety barriers. Entry and exit is maintained for light vehicles and right turn in/right turn out for trucks. The lane shift will be removed overnight on Wednesday 4 February. From Monday 9 February, street light installation will occur over 3 nights, 6pm to 6am, on SH29 in the village, between properties 808 and 820. Temporary traffic management including stop/go will be in place. Shoulder closures, lane shifts and mobile operations are in place along SH29 between Tauriko Village and Gargan Road for work on the watermain in this section. Work underway SH2/SH29 Takitimu Drive: SH29 and SH2 traffic is now diverted onto temporary lanes northbound to Mount Manganui and Tauranga CBD, this diversion will last for 4 months. Traffic from SH29 to Fifteenth Ave will be detoured via SH2 Takitimu Drive to Elizabeth Street. SH2 traffic will still be able to travel to Fifteenth Ave. The diversion is to allow construction of new lanes as part of the Takitimu North Link project. Cambridge Road northbound lane closure: The 24/7 northbound lane closure on a small section of Cambridge Road will be lifted overnight Sunday 1 February, with all traffic movements at the intersection reinstated. Pavement work which wasn’t completed during the lane closure due to the weather will be carried out from Sunday 1 February as night works. Temporary traffic management including a 3-way stop/go and a reduced speed limit of 30km/h will be in place at night. These works are expected to take 1 week. More information SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road: A reduced speed limit of 70km/h remains in place while crews are working behind the barriers on the construction of a flyover bridge and southbound slip lane works for the Takitimu North Link project. Traffic is anticipated to be diverted onto the flyover bridge and southbound slip lane in the next year while works continue. More information

State Highway 2Work starting next week SH2 Katikati: Chipsealing between Phillip Walker Drive and Hyde Street will take place on Sunday 1 and Monday 2 February at night between 8pm and 5am. There will be stop/go traffic management in place with a temporary reduced speed limit. Work starting soon SH2 Mirrilees Road: Mirrilees Road off-ramp will be resurfaced overnight in February. The off-ramp will be closed for the night while work is taking place. More details will be provided closer to the time. SH2 Waihī Road to Bethlehem: Resurfacing work will take place from Sunday 8 February to Thursday 19 February between the Beaumaris Boulevard onramp to SH2 and the Moffat Road roundabout at Bethlehem. There will be lane diversions with temporary speed limits in place as well a detour for part of the work, via Beaumaris Boulevard to Moffat Road and back on to SH2. SH2 Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road: The Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road (TELTR) will close for 2 nights, between 8pm and 4am on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February. The closures allow crews to complete road surfacing where a culvert was installed under the road, remove steel barriers and replace with flexible safety barriers in preparation for restoring traffic to 2 lanes in each direction. SH2 Rogers Road, Pukehina: Work on a road rebuild is due to recommence soon. There will be stop/go traffic management, lane diversions and shoulder closures in place as well as a temporary speed limit from 6am to 6pm each day. Work underway SH2/SH29 Takitimu Drive: SH29 and SH2 traffic is now diverted onto temporary lanes northbound to Mount Manganui and Tauranga CBD, this diversion will last for 4 months. Traffic from SH29 to Fifteenth Ave will be detoured via SH2 Takitimu Drive to Elizabeth Street. Traffic management will be in place when the bridge beams arrive and are lifted into place. More information SH2/Pahoia/Esdaile intersection: Road widening works are underway at this intersection. Please be aware speed restrictions and intermittent stop/go traffic management will be in place, which may result in longer delays. More information SH2 Esdaile Road to Aongatete Road: Please be aware speed restrictions and intermittent stop/go traffic management will be in place for slip clearing works. SH2 Ōmokoroa Road intersection upgrade: Road construction for a new roundabout is underway. A temporary speed restriction is in place. More information Minden Road North: The road between the new roundabout and the Te Puna shops will be under various forms of traffic management from now until April 2026 as works continue to complete road widening, drainage and new pavement. |

Eastern Bay of Plenty - State Highways 2, 35 and 38Work starting soon SH30 Whakatāne River Bridge: Bridge resurfacing on SH30 Landing Road will take place over 2 nights, Thursday 12 and Friday 13 February between 10pm and 5am. To enable the work to happen safely and efficiently the road will be closed between SH30/Keepa Road roundabout and the Landing Road/Hinemoa Street roundabout. There will be a detour for light vehicles via Landing Road, Domain Road, right onto McAlister Street, Commerce Street, Valley Road and Tāneatua Road, right on the SH2 Pekatahi Bridge, through to SH30 Awakeri, and vice versa. HPMV vehicles will need to detour via SH30 Awakeri, right onto SH2, continue to Ōpōtiki and vice versa. Work underway SH2/Wainui Road, Matekerepu, near Ōpōtiki: Work is still underway in the area and the roundabout is currently open to traffic. There is still a temporary speed limit of 50km/h remains in place. The roundabout is expected to be fully completed by April 2026. More information SH2/Ōhiwa Beach Road/Waiōtahe Valley Back Road intersections near Ōpōtiki: Establishing works are in place in paddocks on either side of SH2 as construction of 2 new teardrop shaped roundabouts has begun. Construction is expected to take approximately 14 months. More information SH35 Tōrere: The priority give-way traffic management at Tōrere remains in place with completion of work expected in March. You can see photos of recent work in Transport Rebuild East Coast (TREC) end-of-year newsletter here SH38 Waikaremoana: SH38 will be closed at night until Saturday 28 February between Lake Waikaremoana Holiday Park and Tuai for essential Cyclone Gabrielle recovery work. The road will close from 8pm until 6am each night Sunday to Friday (6 nights a week). The road will be fully open on Saturdays and public holidays, including Auckland anniversary weekend 24-26 January (which is shared by Tairāwhiti and Bay of Plenty). More information |

Rotorua - State Highways 5,28,30 and 30AWork starting next week SH30 Te Ngae Road, Rotorua: For 2 nights from Monday 2 February resurfacing works will take place between Wahanga-A-Rangi Crescent and Pohutukawa Drive from 8pm to 5am. There will be stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions in place. The speed restrictions will remain in place for up to 48 hours until the new surface has been swept and line marking is reinstated. Work starting soon SH30 Eastern Corridor – SH30/Wharenui Road intersection: In early February line marking will be completed over 3 nights from 8.30pm until approximately 1am or when work is finished, with stop/go traffic management in place on SH30 Te Ngae Road at the Wharenui Road intersection. Wharenui Road will be closed between the intersection of SH30 Te Ngae Road and Glenfield Road/Reeve Road, with access retained for residents and emergency services from the Glenfield Road/Reeve Road end. This work has been deferred from mid-January due to weather conditions. More information Work underway SH30A Amohau St – overnight closures: From Tuesday 27 January essential repairs to SH30A Amohau Street will begin using a sequence of overnight road closures. SH30A will be closed between Te Ngae Road and Fenton Street, from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday (open Friday and Saturday nights). Crews will be setting up and disestablishing traffic management an hour either side of the closure times. During the day, the road will be open with a temporary speed limit. Work will start on the eastbound lanes of SH30A between Te Ngae Road and Hinemaru Street, before moving to the westbound lanes. Drivers should expect an uneven surface with ramps at each end of the worksite. The work is expected to take up to 3 months. More information SH30 Collier Road, Rotorua: A road rebuild is underway between Collier Road and Apirana Road, taking 7 weeks to complete. Crews are working between 7am and 5pm each workday. There is stop/go traffic management along with a reduced speed limit. The surface may be uneven while work is ongoing. SH5/SH28 Harwoods Road: There is 24/7 stop/go in place as roundabout construction continues at this intersection east of Tīrau. Traffic is being managed around a temporary roundabout, along with speed restrictions. The roundabout will be completed in March. More information |
