Joint Media Release2,000 More Reasons to Celebrate CLP’s Housing Help19 August 2025 The Finocchiaro CLP Government’s HomeGrown Territory grants - the most generous home builder scheme in Australia – are making home ownership a reality, with more than 900 Territorians already applying. Launched last year, the HomeGrown Territory grants has been a standout success, helping more than 2,000 Territorians break into the housing market. The scheme is boosting housing supply, driving confidence in the building sector, and underpinning population growth. The program, open to all Territorians buying a new or existing home, has already approved 762 applications and paid out more than $12.3 million in grants. This includes more than 200 new builds in the pipeline and counting. First home buyers are leading the charge. The Australian Bureau of Statistics confirms first home buyers in the NT increased by 23.4% to 258 over the year to June 2025 – the strongest growth in the nation. The latest CommSec State of the States report backs this up, with the NT leading the country in population growth (1.2% annually) and recording the fastest economic growth at 10.2%. Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said it proves the CLP’s laser focus on rebuilding the economy is delivering results. “That’s what happens when you take action to reduce crime, rebuild the economy and restore the Territory’s unique lifestyle – more people want to make a life here,” Mrs Finocchiaro said. Treasurer and Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure Bill Yan said the government is driving confidence back into the market. “We’ve turned the corner on crime, and now our foot is to the floor getting the economy back on track, so more Territorians have the chance to move from renting to owning their own home,” Mr Yan said. Master Builders NT Chief Executive Sallyann Innes said the results speak for themselves. “Master Builders NT is urging Territorians to seize this opportunity to build a home of their own with a HomeGrown Territory grant. Every new build keeps the construction industry moving forward at a critical time for the Northern Territory. It supports our local builders, tradies, apprentices, suppliers, and local businesses. When this happens, the benefits flow directly into the community and broader economy. The CLP Government promised to deliver these grants, and we did,” said Minister Yan. “They were due to expire next month, but because of their success we’ve extended them for another year - giving more Territorians the chance to live the dream of owning and building their own homes.” |
