When: Thursday, November 16, 2023 NW3C Webinar Decisions in Times of Uncertainty Using Intelligence Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and hosted by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), this webinar is designed to address the high demand for law enforcement, meant to operate at a high cognitive level where the issues are more complex and require creative solutions. Decision-making is considered a dynamic process with numerous information inputs leading to massive complexities. This is only compounded for law enforcement during critical incidents and rapidly evolving situations where there is both a requirement and an expectation for good decisions. A solution to this overarching issue of increased decision-making and cognitive load is the integration of intelligence analysis into the functions of the corporate suite of your agency. This webinar will explore the nature of uncertainty and how to leverage intelligence as a mechanism to increase confidence in decision-making at all levels of federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) law enforcement agencies. The webinar is the second offering NW3C is providing on this topic. This kickoff webinar for DOC directors, research directors, and corrections analysts will provide an overview of the services and materials that will be offered by the VACA program. As part of the webinar, CSG Justice Center staff members will release an analysis of the results of a field-wide engagement questionnaire that tracked the current challenges and opportunities facing DOCs’ research and data analytic departments nationwide. In addition, a research director from Texas will share how he has built analytic and research capacity for the state’s DOC. He will also present staffing analyses he has conducted for his leadership team as an example of the types of analyses the VACA program will help state research teams carry out. Finally, webinar attendees will have the opportunity to meet their peers in breakout sessions designed to foster cross-state relationships and professional networking.
