Coronavirus (COVID-19) | Update for Residents & Families

Dear Resident & Family Members,

Further COVID-19 cases at Calvary Nazareth

Following our last update to residents and families, I am writing to advise that four residents have tested positive for COVID-19.  This brings the total number of positive cases in the current outbreak at Calvary Nazareth to five, including the staff member who had also tested positive.

All results from the initial round of PCR testing have now been received, and all of the other residents tested negative.

We are liaising closely with the Hunter New England Public Health Unit regarding the next steps, testing regime and when it might be safe to lift the current restrictions on residents’ movement or re-open the home. For the safety of residents and staff, Calvary Nazareth remains closed to visitors until the Public Health Unit deems it safe to reopen.

Residents will need to remain in, and continue to be cared for in their rooms. We understand that this is very difficult for residents and that it is difficult for them not have visitors. Please be assured that our team will continue to ensure the holistic care needs of all residents are met, and calls and video conferencing are available for loved ones to remain in contact.

Visitation exceptions may be made for residents receiving end of life care, or who may be experiencing distress, or where a special care and support role is provided. Please speak with the home manager to discuss arrangements.

Please be assured also that our staff have prepared for COVID-19 exposures and outbreaks such as this. Our staff are trained in strict infection control procedures and are focusing all of their attention on the individual care needs of residents.

We know that this will be worrying for you and your loved ones in our care. We want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to continue to look after the health and wellbeing of all our residents while keeping them safe during this difficult time.

Calvary will update you again as soon as any information becomes available. We anticipate our next update to residents and families will be on Saturday, 15 January, unless there are any changes that need to be communicated before then.

Sincerely,

Bryan McLoughlin
