Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental NetworkThursday 18 November, 10.30 - 12noon
If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive an invite and zoom link for our 9th on 18 November. If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative
networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities. At October's meeting we were joined by
Craig Miller from Barnet Council's Street Scene who we hope to welcome back with updates on the Sustainability Strategy, COP26 and the Environmental Bill that’s making its way through parliament at the moment and the impact that this may have on waste management in England. Remember, get in touch if you would like to join us for a visit to the Recycling Depot at Wembley. If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know. Can't see the wood for the trees!
As recent meetings have shown there is a great desire for large-scale tree planting initiatives in Barnet, with some planned as part of the Barnet Multi Faith Forum's work, The Queen's Green Canopy and a Remembrance project. More details to follow on these in-the-works plantings. The Barnet U3A, Good Gym and the Rotary Club are also keen to be involved in tree planting initiatives. But, as discussed, with so many initiatives and more being advertised (see Trees for Streets) it is crucial that this is done in a joined-up way, in conjunction with Barnet Council's tree experts. Therefore it was thought wise to set up a Tree
Sub-Group to work with the Council on these planned and future projects. Looking not only at the locations but also the types of trees being planted. Wouldn't it be great if we could get more fruit trees planted!
