COVID-19 Support and Help for Business

Hi

At the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce we work with businesses across the Hutt Valley every day. We listen, connect, and provide opportunities to network and to learn. We just love our work to support all of the amazing businesses that are working so hard every day to make, create, research, supply, innovate, buy and sell, and work on behalf of others.

We also like to hear from you about how you are feeling about the current environment for your business, and how you think things will be across our region and across New Zealand. We like to hear about your challenges and your opportunities.

Last week we asked businesses to complete our November 2021 Business Confidence Survey. This survey is important to our work as we use this data to inform local government and central government about how you are feeling. This work to advocate on your behalf, is an important aspect of what we do. We often interact with Mayors and local councilors, and also Ministers and Members of Parliament. Being able to share how you feel is vital to these conversations.

A look at the results so far show that there is a lot of change in how businesses are feeling about the situation in New Zealand, in the region and for their own business since the middle of 2021. Being able to communicate this and ensure we advocate for you is more important than ever.

We would appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey which you can access here.

On a final note, well done to the Hutt Valley for reaching the target of 90% first dose vaccination. The region is now also at 82% second dose.

Reach out to me at patrick@hvchamber.org.nz if you have any questions about our advocacy work or the survey.

Thanks

Patrick McKibbin
CEO

The Government announced today that Auckland boundary settings will change on 15 December, allowing Aucklanders who have been vaccinated or tested will be able to reconnect with the rest of New Zealand in time for Christmas and summer.

  • Auckland boundary settings to change from 15 December, ensuring travel out for all vaccinated people or those with a negative test result.
  • Country better prepared — 82% of New Zealanders fully vaccinated, compared to 23% 3 months ago and projections of 90% fully vaccinated by mid-December.

Youth Inspire – Lower Hutt Events Centre
Industry Tour

On Friday the 5 November, Andrew our Employment Coordinator, visited Chamber member, Lower Hutt Events Centre with some rangatahi from our Gold Partner, Youth Inspire. They experienced what is involved in the day-to-day operation at the large hospitality venue.

Gert and Shelly from the Lower Hutt Events Centre, kindly showed the rangatahi around their busy operation where they were able to see first-hand the diverse range of careers available in the hospitality and events industry.

They explored the meeting rooms and more intimate dining settings and went through to the restored heritage Town Hall. Then they saw the ultra-modern event space, which has a capacity for 1,200 people for cocktail events.  Throughout the tour the rangatahi built up a great understanding of the roles and infrastructure required to run a venue of that scale, including the day-to-day operation of the commercial kitchen.

Impact Of COVID-19 On Worldwide Shipping and The Ongoing Effects And Issues

Join us for our latest live webinar hosted by Patrick McKibbin, CEO, Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce who will be speaking with our Gold Partners, Blair Morgan, Wellington Branch Manager and Priya Shama, Wellington Sales Manager for 360 Logistics Group for an overview of the impact of COVID-19 on the shipping industry.

Priya and Blair will outline the major issues faced over the last 12-18 months, then a focus on the current market conditions and how they affect business.

360 Logistics Group is an independent and privately owned organisation that specialises in international trade facilitation and the increasingly complex supply chain and logistics industry.

What sets 360 Logistics Group apart from their competition is the unique and innovative approach to managing the value chain of international logistics and the movement of goods. They believe that the value component of a robust supply chain lies in the ability to form and develop partnerships with like-minded businesses both locally and globally.

In addition they take a holistic approach working alongside their customers when developing customised solutions, taking into consideration differing modes, the suppliers ability to meet deadlines, seasonal logistics peaks, border and commerce compliance. Even the value of goods to be moved or the ability to reuse import equipment for export shipments to design a true end to end logistics business model. In a nutshell they do not accept that it always has to be done the same way.

This webinar will be held on Thursday 2 December at 10:00am, live on our Hutt Valley Chamber Facebook page.
