Welcome to the Barnet Together Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet (16 June 2022).

Hard to believe that we are almost at the longest day and half way through the year!  Make use of this longer lighter days by getting out and about in Barnet. There are some events outlined below, or have a look at the special themed events newsletter from a fortnight ago. This week's news also features two opportunities for you to share your news to a wider audience, plus where to find support for you and those you work with. The selection of funding opportunities are just a few highlights from the 1,000s of funders out there, and if these aren't right for you then get in touch and I can search out some that are a better fit.

London Hearts - Defibrillator Grants

Grants of £300 are available to local not-for-profit groups who are fundraising for public access defibrillators in London.

Individuals and organisations in London can apply, including:

  • Charities
  • Sports clubs
  • Town and parish councils
  • Non-profit organisations

Grants should be used towards the cost of a defibrillator and a cabinet.

The following criteria will be used to determine allocation of funding:

  • Location/footfall.
  • Health needs of the community.
  • Proximity to other defibrillators.

Applications can be submitted at anytime to London Hearts.

 
 
 

It's easy to fundraise with EasyFundraising

Community third-sector organisations are receiving just over £1m in free funding this month. This is funding that their volunteers and supporters have raised for them simply by shopping online with leading online retailers, through the free to use easyfundraising platform.  Your organisation can also benefit from this unrestricted revenue stream that complements existing fundraising activities - to ensure your receive funds in the next payout, register with easyfundraising, for free.

Mayor of London - Building Strong Communities Fund

The fund has been established to support London communities that have been most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants will support a range of community-led projects designed to shape and strengthen communities as they recover.

Microgrants of between £1,000 and £5,000.
Small Grants of between £5,001 and £10,000.

Groups will need to:
Have an annual turnover of £50,000 or less, if applying for a microgrant.
Have an annual turnover of £200,000 or less, if applying for a small grant.

The funding could be used for a range of project types such as celebrations and festivals, community cooking or growing projects, story-telling and cultural activity, advocacy, intergenerational activity, working with children and young people, or a project to support a particular mental health need within the community.

There will be information sessions on the following dates:
21 June 2022, 2pm to 3.30pm.
29 June 2022, 11.30am to 1pm.

Guidance notes and application forms are available on the Mayor of London website.

Round two is open until 8 August 2022 (1pm).

 

The Places of Worship Protective 
Security Funding Scheme

The Home Office’s Places of Worship Security Funding Scheme provides funding for places of worship and associated faith community centres that are vulnerable to hate crime, and covers the costs of equipment and installation of all security measures agreed for your place of worship.

In order to support London’s faith communities and to give you the best possible chance of successfully obtaining funding for physical security measures, the London Countering Violent Extremism programme are partnering with Strengthening Faith Institutions (SFI), Community Security Trust (CST) and Faiths Forum for London to provide advice and guidance on applying for these grants.

Opportunity: Sense Arts is excited to be launching a pioneering National Inclusive Dance Programme.

Led by Artistic Director Lisa Simpson, and Resident Dance Artist Rebecca Randall, Sense are setting up new dance sessions for disabled and non-disabled participants across the country, and have selected Barnet as a key area. Delivered by experienced local dance professionals , the sessions will be creative, fun and uplifting. Lisa’s vision is to create space in which everyone can express themselves and reach their full potential as dancers and choreographers, regardless of their disability.

News: Safeguarding Checklist for Adults (for the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector)

Barnet Council’s Safeguarding Adults Board have written an invaluable guide and checklist for  Barnet's voluntary, community and faith sector [‘VCFS’] organisations who work with adults at risk. 

In their Guest Post for Barnet Together, they write:

"As Barnet Safeguarding Adults Board, we want to support local voluntary, community and faith sector organisations to safeguard adults at risk and promote wellbeing.... We have created a checklist as a way of helping VCFS partners reflect on how to meet the safeguarding responsibilities and build into your organisational structures cultures that strive for best practice."

Survey: How are rising costs impacting your charity?

With inflation expected to peak around 10% in 2022, rising costs are a concern for charities and communities alike. In order to better understand your concerns and how you are mitigating them, the Civil Society Group is running this short survey. We will use this information to advocate to government and to provide support to the voluntary sector.

News: Financial support for those of pensionable age living in Barnet

Age UK Barnet will be delivering their Household Support grants on behalf of Barnet Council to help older Barnet residents struggling with rising utility bills and food prices. The Household Support fund is there to support Barnet residents of pensionable age with utility bills and food costs as well as wider essentials.

This is just one of the local and national initiatives in place to support those affected by the Cost of Living Crisis. We are trying to round up much of the support available in a single online resource. Have a look and share with those you are working with.  If you are aware of any other support available do email Ellen and we can get it updated.

Opportunity: Share yours news across the airwaves!

Great British Radio (GBR) is launching a regular slot for charities to be interviewed. The new radio station was launched last month and has  a regular slot called Shine a Light, where actress Linda Lusardi will interview registered charities and other non-profits about the work they do. 

GBR will be accepting applications from charities to the slot on a rolling basis. GBR is available to listen to online and on the DAB+ network across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and South and North London. 

Osman said: "The charitable sector does a fantastic job. We want to give a platform to the unsung heroes who work tirelessly to help others. We'd love to hear from organisations and individuals who wish to take part."

Opportunity: Free data first aid

Struggling to make your volunteer or budgeting spreadsheets do what you want them to? Need an expert to look at demographic data or analyse the need of your service users? Know you have great data but not sure how to make it visually appealing or tell the right story?

Pro Bono Economics (PBE) can provide charities with pro bono support from a dedicated volunteer economist to help them with their ad hoc data needs. That might include data analysis or visualisation, spreadsheet tasks or short pieces of research.

Events: Get out and about in Barnet on Saturday 25 June...

Montrose, Silkstream and Colindale Parks Opening Event on Saturday 25 June,12-4pm, where you get to know the new sports facilities, the wildlife element of the parks, along with the play equipment and recreational facilities. On the day we will have the Mayor of Barnet, the local press, lots of local partners, food, music, giveaways, fun fair, a variety of sports demonstrations including parkour, table tennis, basketball, skate park and stalls from local providers. More information on this event, and other events happening in Barnet's parks this summer.

Meet up at Cherry Tree Wood for the East Finchley Faith and Peace Walk on Saturday 25 June, 10.30am for a 11am start. East Finchley is a place of rich history and heritage. It has a variety of faith groups and open spaces. Please come and join us to explore some of these amazing spaces and places of worship. The day, planned by MDX InterFaith Network and Barnet Multi Faith Forum, will be divided into regular stops so you can stay with the walk as long as you can to hear about the work of the venues, enjoy light refreshments and use facilities. Everyone is welcome, but please let us know if extra support is needed. You do not have to be of a specific faith or belief to attend. Children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. More information and to book.

Events: Free lunchtime concerts are a Proms at St Jude's Highlight

Proms at St Jude’s is almost here and everyone is welcome! This popular community music and literature festival, in and around Central Square in Hampstead Garden Suburb runs from 25 June to 3 July. Proms has delighted audiences for the past 30 years and this year’s programme is one of its best ever.

Showcasing the best young, up and coming musicians, the free concerts run from Monday 27 June through to Friday 1 July (except on Thursday), starting at 12 noon. Artists include Jonathan Ferrucci (piano), The Louise Balkwill Duo (singing from The Great American Songbook), Ariana Kashefi and Maksim Štšura (cello and piano) and Samuele Telari (accordion).

Their FREE lunchtime concerts are timed between noon – 1pm, but you could combine this one of their Heritage Walks around the Suburb if you wanted to. Walks start at 10 or 10.30am and at 2.00pm.

The Stonegrove Community Trust are recruiting for an Operations Manager. This is a hugely diverse and rewarding role, which is flexible and could be either part time or full time.  £35,000 pro rata.
