Wednesday 20th December 2023 |Wenerei 20 Tīhema 2023

What a phenomenal year we've had working with you and the wider Porirua community on what you've said is important. As we wrap up an incredible 2023, we've been reflecting on some of the highlights with the community this year:

  • Facilitated Reimagining Workshops, delving into critical topics like Dental & Oral Health, Tāngata Whaikaha, Diabetes, and Mental Health. Together, we've crafted solutions focused on prevention and quick wins.

  • We officially established the Porirua Hauora Network - because building connections and working together is how we will transform health and well-being in Porirua.

  • Community Governance Group established, ensuring the community voice is at the heart of our decision-making.

  • Established our Community Engagement Advisory Group, this important rōpū advises us on who we need to be connected with on different kaupapa and how best to engage with them.

  • Participated in health & well-being events in Porirua.

  • Teamed up with Collaborative Aotearoa, to deliver the leading with stories workshop.

  • Successfully completed the procurement process to allocate funding based on the Reimagining Session recommendations.

Ngā mihi kia koutou to everyone that has been part of this journey so far! Check out what else has been happening in the final push of 2023:

  • Free Dental Event
  • Reimagining Workshop Outcomes
  • EOI Opportunities
  • +more!

Over the first 2 weekends of December Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou led the Free Dental event for Porirua at Ora Toa in Cannons Creek!

This is the first community initiative to come from the Dental and Oral Health Reimagining session. This initiative is a testament to the power of listening and responding to our community's voice.

The events were a collective effort with over 70+ volunteers and collaboration with providers that brought this kaupapa to life.

Here's some numbers from the event:

  • Number of Cleans = 148
  • Number of Extractions = 179
  • Number of Fillings = 120
  • Total number of Treatments = 939
  • Total number of Patients = 338

These numbers are more than just statistics, they represent a shared commitment to the well-being of Porirua.

In treating individuals, we not only addressed oral health issues, we have begun to build bridges toward a healthier, and more connected community.

And to top it off, we were fortunate enough to share our mahi with the media and were featured in The Post, check it out below!

The Reimagining Outcome Reports are now ONLINE!

These reports are a summary of all the whānau-voice and provider-input contributions during the different Reimagining Sessions.

These papers offer recommendations directed to Te Whatu Ora for funding allocation and enable service providers to collaborate together on new ways of delivering their services.
