Fall Break Next Week
Carleton's Fall Break is from Monday, Oct. 21 to Friday, Oct. 25. No classes will take place during this time.

MacOdrum Library Open During Fall Break
Looking for a quiet place to study or catch up on assignments during Fall Break? The Library will be open, and it's the perfect spot to focus! Be sure to check out our study spaces on the 5th floor, offering a peaceful environment ideal for individual study. Fall Break hours are: Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to midnight. You will find plenty of seating, study carrels, and charging stations to support your productivity.  

Carleton Rises to #4 in Canada in Maclean’s Rankings
Maclean’s magazine has released their 2025 university rankings which once again highlight Carleton University’s excellence. Carleton rose to No. 4 in Canada (No. 2 in Ontario) in the comprehensive category—universities with a significant amount of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including professional degrees. Grammar Foundations

The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) is offering Grammar Foundations, a program designed to review key grammar points and provide tips and strategies for effective grammar use in academic writing contexts.

Virtual sessions via MS Teams will be held on Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The 2024-2025 Richard J. Van Loon Scholarship application for an outstanding international student from an African country is available. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2025. For details, click here. 

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s Program (CGSM – Deadline to apply is Dec. 1, 2024 before 8 p.m. EST

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) – Deadline to apply is Nov. 19, 2024 at 12 a.m. Midnight EST. Referee deadline is Dec. 1, 2024.

Changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit
International students: planning to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit after the Fall 2024 term? As of Nov. 1, proof of English or French language skills is required. Book your language test now to avoid delays in submitting your work permit application. Learn more at the

UHIP coverage for dependents
UHIP health insurance is mandatory for your dependents who are inside Canada with you. More details and online enrolment form can be found here.  
Have OHIP? If you or your spouse has OHIP (Ontario provincial insurance - green card) or other provincial health insurance, UHIP is not required. Email: uhip@carleton.ca for more information.

Carleton University Art Gallery Exhibit 

Until Dec. 14, the exhibit, A Dream of Return will be displayed which weaves together difficult pasts and hopeful futures through creative resistance in the present. Artists in the exhibition are: Adeyemi Adegbesan, Nic Cooper, Theo Jean Cuthand, Rana Nazzal Hamadeh and Farouk Kaspaules.

Call for Mini-Courses Program (MCP) Proposals are Now Open! 

The MCP provides students from grades 8 to 11 with the chance to engage with Carleton for a one-week enriched learning experience. The Undergraduate Recruitment Office is looking for enthusiastic graduate students interested in teaching an MCP course to a group of bright, young students from April 28 to May 2, 2025.  

Applications are due by Wednesday, Dec. 1.

TA CENTRAL HUB

Training
Access workshop recordings under Recorded Workshops (Pedagogical Training). These recordings count towards pedagogical training hours; please follow the instructions and take the quizzes linked at the bottom of each video page. It will take up to a few weeks for the training to show up on your TA Training Transcript (located via Carleton Central>TA Management>TA Training>TA Training Transcript).

 

TEACHING ASSISTANTS (TA) OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Pedagogical Training
All TAs have access to five hours of pedagogical training. You are strongly encouraged to complete this training as to gain important skills for your role as a TA at Carleton. Training must be completed during the term(s) in which the student is working as a TA and must be completed before the deadline, Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship, and March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship. Oct. 18: Last day of early fall classes.

Oct. 21-25: Fall Break. No classes.

Oct. 28: Late fall classes begin.

Nov. 8: Last day to withdraw from late fall term courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

 

Celebrating Carleton’s Spirit, Innovation and Community at Throwback

Carleton University was filled with energy and school spirit as Throwback, the university’s highly anticipated homecoming celebration, brought alumni, students and community members together from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6.

With a wide range of events showcasing everything from athletics to art, and new academic programs to engaging lectures, Throwback offered something for everyone and highlighted the vibrant culture of Carleton.
