At the Southern Interchange, our pavements team are laying and stabilising rock during the day, then laying asphalt at night. Asphalt has to be laid at night to ensure there is a consistent supply from the plant, and to avoid delays caused by peak traffic.
The team started in the south near the Tamahere Interchange in January, and they are progressively working north. Night works are expected to take 8-10 weeks, depending on weather.
‘Squawkers’ have replaced reversing ‘beepers’ on construction vehicles to reduce noise, and other measures are in place to minimise effects on project neighbours.
